vice "The NYC Pride march and accompanying festival has turned very straight and mainstream, with corporate sponsors like TD Bank and MetLife (probably places that once fired people for being gay) hashtagging their brand #foreverproud and #metlifepride on the Pride experience. When did it become OK for corporations to put their logos on the blood, sweat, and tears of what this march represents? Wouldn't we rather see those corporate dollars spent on issues that desperately need help, within the LGBT community and outside it, instead of allowing them to co-opt queer culture?" - Sam Clarke on NYC Pride. •   gray_stone Vice, do your homework. TDBank was one of the first banks in Canada to publicly support gay rights and demand equal rights in many different issues (women's rights, race and sexuality)... And when it comes to funding gay rights and issues, that's what gay pride is all about? Or have you (as a publication that is seen as straight) become blind to research and facts? 2d
  •   tankerbuds You should know this by now lol corporations dont care about you as a human they see you as a person a vessel without a soul, its all about the money and dont you forget it! 2d

  •   heathersparkyface Welcome to the mainstream! 1d
  •   edword1010 Aye vice u mad??? Too mainstream for you? Also "probably" is really shitty proof. 1d
  •   sophiepickwell Pride shouldn't be full of drunk straight teenagers don't get me wrong it's great that they show their support but it's not their playground. Pride is there for people who have lost or are struggling / have struggled with their gender or sexuality to connect with other lgbt members who can relate to their situation. 1d
  •   mtreed1 Actually @vice if you did your research, you would know TD is among many companies that signed the "Friend of the Court" brief in support of marriage equality. 1d

  •   semuraii SF is the most expensive city I've lived. This is 2011 -2013. I know mega cities like NYC, Tokyo, HK, London, Paris, Moscow are super expensive but I think SF because geographically the city is 7x7 miles it's the most expensive by city limits. Pretty much the whole city is gentrified with no "bad" neighborhoods. Don't tell me the tenderloin or bay view is badly , because those spots have skyrocketed in rental value too. My buddy recently got a nice spot in the upper east side and he pays $1k for his room so that's still doable for NYC. I don't know, maybe I'm too old and I got that snobby "been there done that hustling bustling city living" feel on me. I'm tired of big cities (though I still enjoy the concentration of shit to do and diversity). Id rather live a good chill life rather than give my money to some capitalist landlord for my hedonistic city dwelling. I've been living in Long Beach, Ca and I love the vibe here. It reminds me of Oakland, Portland, Austin. 7d
