travelettes So this is me saying "Tot ziens!" for now with a final photo from Amsterdam... I'll be back soon but sharing a very different part of the world with you. You can find more bikes, canals and Amsterdam #doorporn like this (or #damgooddoors as I call them) over on my personal account @bushbirdie. Tomorrow @katjahentschel will take over from another new (and I think exotic) location! Thanks for all your comments! #postedbyFrankie 1d

travelettes So these are my tips for riding a bike in Amsterdam:

1. Go slow.
2. But don't expect everyone else to go slow.
3. Stop at red lights.
4. But don't expect everyone else to stop at red lights.
5. Stay right at all times. And give way to the right. (Good news, most people will also give way to the right and should stay right, unless they're overtaking you.)
6. Don't worry if people ring their bells at you. It's normally just to let you know they're coming past you.
7. If you don't like busy streets, try to keep out of the city centre, especially at weekends. You'll see more there on foot and will avoid running over other tourists. Plus Amsterdam's neighbourhoods are pretty too!
8. The best way to experience Amsterdam's cycling culture is heading to a park (I love Westerpark, Vondelpark, and Amsterdamse Bos for bike rides). There you can go really fast and stick your legs out like when you were a kid!
9. Always put your lock through the front wheel and the frame and if possible around something solid too. Bike theft is very common in Amsterdam.
10. HAVE FUN! Amsterdam is one of the safest cities to cycle in and I personally think all cities should be this cycle-friendly so enjoy being part of something special. Also, it's pretty flat so no hills! Hurrah! #postedbyFrankie

travelettes People come to Amsterdam for the pretty canalside houses from the 17th and 18th centuries, and yes, they are very beautiful... But also keep your eyes open for some fine examples of Art Deco and Amsterdam School architecture, like this striking building which houses the city's archives. It also has a small permanent exhibition about Amsterdam's history and geography, and has regularly changing photography and art events, all about the city. Plus it has a great bookshop. All of this is too often overlooked by tourists so you can enjoy a quiet visit in a lovely building... #postedbyFrankie 2d

travelettes It's nearly the end of raspberry season in the Netherlands, so I'm stocking up on these Hollandse Frambozen from Albert Cuyp Market... and I'm ignoring the cold, windy weather that's arrived in Amsterdam today. #postedbyFrankie 2d

travelettes Is it wrong that this is one of my favourite reasons to live in Amsterdam? Ladies (and gents), I give you Dutch apple pie... It's the best! 3d

travelettes Sundays in Amsterdam are for lazy bike rides, afternoon tea with friends or reading a book under a surprisingly blue sky. At least that's what I'm going to do today... How about you? Oh and you see the little house on the left, that's actually a pizzeria where you can collect takeaway pizza from your boat on the canal, as it has a kind of "sail through" window under the bridge. Lekker! 🚣 #postedbyFrankie 3d

travelettes Recognise these chairs? 🛄🌎 Nice touch at Roest, the place I was just telling you about... They do just make me want to jump on a plane though! #postedbyFrankie 3d

travelettes This is possibly the only London double decker bus in Amsterdam and it's to be found at Roest, a trendy bendy cafe during the day and a popular nighttime hang out spot in an old warehouse out in East Amsterdam's old dockland area. I like cycling round this area hunting for new street art and house boats on the canals. #postedbyFrankie 3d

travelettes Speaking of greenery, this is Sarphati Park, my nearest green space in De Pijp and the perfect spot for a picnic lunch with friends. Even though it's quite a small park, it still has lots to see and enjoy like an outdoor gym, public ping-pong tables and a conservation area for wildlife around a small lake. #postedbyFrankie 4d

travelettes There's a lot of greenery in Amsterdam: in the city's parks, along the canals and even growing on the houses... #postedbyFrankie 4d

travelettes I live in a part of Amsterdam called De Pijp and this is one of the most famous sights in my "buurt" (neighbourhood)... Albert Cuyp Market. It is one of the busiest day markets in the Netherlands, it's open six days a week (Sundays are for sleeping) and has been an important part of Amsterdam's history for over 100 years. I come here to buy vegetables, fruit, fresh mint for tea, houseplants (to replace the ones that die on me) and wool for my crochet projects. Oh and poffertjes. You HAVE to try the poffertjes from here! #postedbyFrankie 5d
