tomryle Was walking behind this rather fancy dude the other day near my office in Seattle. All I can say is, to each his own. And thank you, dad, for teaching me about the outdoors, how to swing a hammer, run a chainsaw, use a compass, field dress a deer, etc.. I'm kinda simple but I like it that way ;-) 7d

  •   twatrofl @88husker I think that's his purse. 6d
  •   tomryle @twatrofl yes, his man bag. Again, to each his own. The contrast between a guy like me and a guy like him is like oil and water but I guess that's what makes the world go around. 6d
  •   tomryle People make fun of me for my extraordinary love of all things meat, bowhunting, and my propensity to nearly drive off the road in excitement when I see a tore up game trail alongside the road. Hey, it's just the way I'm wired :-) 6d
  •   twatrofl I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with a man who takes care of himself but rugged is good. But whatever floats his boat. 🚣 6d

tomryle My good friend Kevin and I have several seminars this Saturday at Cabela's in Lacey, Washington for the Fall Great Outdoor Days event. Seminars: "Big Game Success", "Archery Elk Hunting" (focus on coastal a Roosevelt elk), and "Field to Freezer" (DIY game processing + sausage making demonstration). Always a great time! If you're local, come by and say hello! #cabelas #itsinmynature #seminars #pnw #bowhunting #deer #blacktail #muledeer #bear #whitetail #roosevelt #elk #wildgame #processing #sausage #jerky #DIY #demonstration 3w

tomryle @grassyknobguide Here's a late summer photo of my 2009 blacktail "project" that ended during a late October still-hunt through a thicket. He stood and I arrowed him at 18 yards. #blacktail #bowhunting #pnw #washington 3w

tomryle Hunted this local #blacktail for several years and never connected, found a couple of his sheds too. He had his largest #rack (4x4) in this photo and earned the nickname "Big 3" over the next couple years as he just stayed a heavy 3x3. He may still be alive but I've not located him yet this summer. #bowhunting #pnw #blacktail #deer 3w
  •   grassyknobguide Keep after him @tomryle those ongoing struggles with hunting one animal can be frustrating but rewarding. Good luck and keep us posted on him. 3w
  •   tomryle @grassyknobguide I've got a unique 4x4 on the radar. I didn't hunt him last year but I saw him last month so I know he made it through. He should finish out in the 110"-120" range. His rear forks were 5" deep last fall. 3w

tomryle I found a big mistake in the October issue of #Bowhuntingworld. This is NOT and never will be a "Bow". What are your thoughts on an increasing number of states allowing crossbows into the regular archery seasons? Do you agree or disagree, and why? 4w
  •   tomryle I agree, @johnsonchandler. I'm not opposed to them; I just prefer an accurate portrayal of crossbows - their design, function, and usage - and an appropriate allocation of their use. Simply calling them bows and railroading their use into established bow seasons is causing a division amongst hunters. This is a bad thing, as you know. There is an official ASTM definition around a "bow", authored by respected P.E., Norb Mullaney (former director of bow testing and columnist for Bowhunting World). I was involved in that work and I find it ironic that my photo above is from the very pages of this publication. 4w
  •   sgknut @tomryle if someone wants to use a crossbow I say fine but I believe they should fall under a modern firearm tag. Put on some orange and shoot your crossbow if you choose. 4w
  •   tomryle Agree @sgknut. And I think for disabled hunters with a demonstrated or obvious disability, and a desire to pursue close-range hunting, States could allow crossbow-only seasons congruent with game population and harvest goals and in firearm restricted areas. I'm all for more hunters, new hunters, kid hunters, and promoting programs targeting at-risk youth. Hollywood celebs just raised over $25 million in ONE night to save Bengal Tigers. Imagine what DiCaprio and his cronies could do if they rallied to eliminate hunting on US soil? 4w
  •   modern_caveman98 If you have to use a trigger, should not be used in bow season. Just my opinion. 4w
  •   seneca_archer Was legalized here in PA to the consternation of many. My personal opinion would be they should only be legal in regular firearms season. And/Or give xbows the week (or 2) before firearms since here in PA bow season ends two weeks prior to firearms season. 4w
  •   brockchilds Anything that will introduce new hunters, young hunters, past hunters, elderly hunters, etc. is what it's all about. Standing firm that we are hunters and not squabbling over very fine details of how ones chooses to hunt is what's gonna make the difference. We need numbers to stand up to antis. 4w
  •   seneca_archer @brockchilds I fully understand your point. But my feeling is very few people jump from not hunting straight into xbow hunting. There hunting teeth are whetted on small game or rifle hunting deer. The difficulty of Archery organizations in the early part of the 19th Century to get bowhunting legalized in individual states was a monumental task. Bow seasons were meant to be a "primitive" challenge. Understanding and honoring that history is important and should be part of becoming a "Bowhunter" IMHO. As I said earlier I don't believe many whet their teeth using a xbow first in hunting. If they get to the point they decide a xbow "challenge" is for them let them do it in gun season. Just my opinion. I don't think a xbow limitation is going to be a make or break circumstance once someone sets out on the "hunter's path". @modern_caveman98 4w
