tomasvh Sincere thanks to all who have shared this issue on their networks.
Unfortunately, the @Amazon copyright infringement issue has not been fully addressed. This morning I found more illegal products with my stolen photo and those of other photojournalists being sold on #Amazon. In addition to being completely illegal, some of these phone cases sold on Amazon are grisly war photos with child #victims that are totally #inappropriate for mass commercialization.
Amazon seems to have confected a business model of anonymous 3rd-party sellers, legal loopholes and automated profit generating algorithms that they can no longer control. The media is now on the issue--this is a screen shot from a PBS NewsHour article. You can R ead it at:
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/unauthorized-amazon-iphone-cases/

It's now clear that the morally bankrupt business that Amazon is earning fees and commissions from is broken. This never should have happened, and Amazon needs to make this right. Six days after I filed my complaint to Amazon, they still can't or won't comply. Please share and repost until Amazon fully complies.

tomasvh This @Amazon copyright infringement issue just took a very horrifying turn. While searching Amazon to see if other photographers featured in @TIME's Top 10 Photos of 2014 had their images stolen, I came across this iPhone case decorated with a photograph by acclaimed NY Times war photographer Tyler Hicks. It shows a Palestinian man carrying a dead child in his arm during the Gaza conflict. A dead child sold on Amazon as a an iPhone case. This is an outraged. I am sickened. Amazon, if you are selling this kind of product under your brand and logo, than your company is broken. Your vetting system is broken. Your complaint take-down system is broken. You've been overrun by your own content and profit slurping algorithms to the point where you've lost all humanity. This never should have happened and you need to make it right.

tomasvh Dear Instagram community, Please help me by reposting this. @Amazon is selling products on their site which use my photo without permission. Several days after I contacted them to report the copyright infringement, there are still illegal phone and iPad cases decorated with my photograph for sale on Amazon.com.
The background:

On December 8th, one of Tomas van Houtryve's photos was selected as one of TIME's Top 10 Photos of 2014. A week later, there were multiple unauthorized cell phone and iPad cases for sale on Amazon.com decorated with the image.
On Dec. 19, Amazon was formally requested to remove the items and provide contact information for Amazon's third-party authorized vendors who are making and selling the illegal cases.
Today, several cell phone cases with the image are still for sale, and Amazon has refused outright to give Tomas the contact information of the vendors infringing on his copyright. On Dec. 21, Amazon wrote to Tomas saying: "We trust this will bring this matter to a close." No Amazon, it won't. Please repost this to pressure Amazon to quit profiting from stolen goods and to respect the rights of independent artists.

tomasvh Hey @Amazon. Amazingly, you can ship products anywhere within 24 hours, but now it's been 72 hours and you haven't fully complied with my request to remove products from your site which are infringing on my copyright. Are you trying to eek out an extra profit from commerce in stolen goods before the end of the holiday shopping season?

Since you aren't fully complying with my requests by email, here's a format you know how to react to quickly:

My Amazon "Wishlist" • I want you to stop profiting from the sale of stolen goods • I want you to fully comply with your legal duty to take down products infringing on my copyright • I want you to quit covering up for your authorized third-party vendors who are making and selling the illegal products --- Background

On December 8th, one of my photos was selected as one of TIME's Top 10 Photos of 2014. A week later, there were 50+ unauthorized cell phone and iPad cases for sale on Amazon.com decorated with my image. The picture appears to have been stolen straight off the TIME website.
On Dec. 19 I asked Amazon to remove the items and give me the contact information of their third-party authorized vendors who are making and selling these illegal cases.
Today several cell phone cases with my image are still for sale, and Amazon has refused to give me the contact information of their illegal vendors. They had the gall to write me and say: "We trust this will bring this matter to a close." No Amazon, it won't.

  •   centralalley Amazon makes zero profit from third party sellers, but 72 hours is a long time for copywrited images to still be sold on the site once amazon is notified. You may always write to Jeff Bezos if nothing is still being done, and feel you need to escalate the issue further. 4d

  •   anjanimillet Hi. I'm a photographer as well and heard about this from @thephotosociety. It's outrageous and I hope you sue them. I will share this to my network of many thousands of photographers and artists. Very wrong and very illegal. 2d
  •   anjanimillet @tomasvh Forgot to mention, in case you might not know, PPA has attorneys who deal with this everyday as part of membership. 2d
  •   mary_condon #nbc was hyping them up this morning to bad they couldn't have showed your story instead. Hop u get this resolved fast. 2d

tomasvh Dear @Amazon. There are only 4 shopping days left until Xmas & you're are still selling items infringing on my copyright, despite my formal request to remove them.

On Dec. 8, one of my photos was selected as one of @TIME's Top 10 Photos of 2014. A week later, there were 50+ unauthorized cell phone and iPad cases for sale on Amazon.com decorated with my image. The picture appears to have been stolen straight off the TIME website.
On Dec. 19, I asked Amazon to remove the items and give me the contact information of their third-party authorized vendors who are making and selling these illegal cases.
Today Amazon took down some of the items, but 18 phone cases with my image are still for sale. Amazon refused to give me the contact information of their illegal vendors, and had the gall to write you me and say: "We trust this will bring this matter to a close." No Amazon, it won't.

tomasvh #Repost from @natgeo: --- Photo by @TomasVH. Information is tightly controlled inside North Korea. The TV in my hotel room only had three channels: one playing only patriotic songs, another mostly showing their leader visiting factories, and the last one showing glorified Korean War documentaries. The man in this photo is only person I saw watching a foreign film--in this case a Russian movie made in Soviet times. Hollywood films are forbidden inside the country.

Sony Pictures announced this week they were pulling "The Interview," a comedy which takes place in #NorthKorea after unknown hackers breached Sony's systems and issued threats to movie theaters. Is this an unprecedented move to control external information about North Korea as tightly as it is inside the country? @VIIPhoto @thephotosociety

tomasvh #Repost: @TIME Picks the Top 10 Photos of 2014 – On Nov. 25, 2014, Tomas van Houtryve (@tomasvh), a photographer with @viiphoto, used a drone to take this aerial photograph of Lake Oroville in California as part of his “Blue Sky Days” art project, which looks at how drones and cameras are used in today’s society. “Cameras are increasingly weaponized – [they’re] used for surveillance, targeting and killing – rather than their traditional role as tools for portraiture, fine art and journalism,” says van Houtryve. “The rapid rise of drone technology means our sky will soon be buzzing with many more cameras.” Photograph by Tomas van Houtryve—VII. tomasvh I'm very pleased to announce that one of my pictures has been selected as one of @TIME Magazine's Top 10 Photos of 2014: http://ti.me/1yw9Tnb
TIME's Director of Photography, Kira Pollack writes: "Each photograph selected for TIME’s Top 10 photos of 2014, carefully culled from thousands, takes us into a dramatic scene that provides an important visual record of history. As these images came through our news-gathering operation over the course of the year, they not only astounded us, but also moved us... Tomas van Houtryve has labored on a project about the unseen impact of American drone strikes in faraway lands. He used shadows of people at locations in the U.S., similar to those targeted overseas, to bring war home. Recently, van Houtryve turned that focus inward. Directing a small quadcopter, he made scenes ranging from kids playing soccer at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the site of a mass shooting in 2012, to the calm rows of houseboats in California’s Central Valley (#5), where the shoreline shows the effects of a months-long drought. It’s from this perspective, the drone’s-eye view, that we see something we tend to ignore: how the rest of the world looks at us." @viiphoto #TIMEtop10photosof2014 @thephotosociety

tomasvh Medium format 4x5" #negatives from an aerial #drone? That's what I'm working with to make terrifyingly detailed, huge gelatin silver prints for the upcoming Moving Walls #exhibition on #surveillance. Working with #PhilippeBachelier, Sebastião Salgado's long-time lab tech, and Picto lab in Paris, we are transforming the contemporary drone's-eye view into archival gelatin silver prints for the show. The photos will be on display at the @opensocietyfoundations in NYC from Nov. 4, 2014 to May 8, 2015. #blackandwhite #analog #enlarger #masterprints #4x5 #mediumformat #baryta @viiphoto @thephotosociety 3mon
