toddglaser In an effort to bring awareness to Orcas and the fragile habitat in which they exist in... @kevinancell and @kellyslater collaborated on an art project titled #thePOD. While in Hawaii last December I watched Uncle Kevin paint tirelessly on these boards for weeks. Every board has a name dedicated to a fallen friend/waverider. Sion, Eddie Aikau, Chesser, AI, just to name a few. When the last board was complete we set them out in the backyard and shot this image. At the time we knew we had something very special, I never would have guessed it would have ended up on the corner in Times Square in NY!!!! A big thank you goes out to all who helped and are helping make this project what it is!! 1d

toddglaser Saturday morning organizing. @surfer_magazine @goincase 4d
  •   toddglaser @marissapees I use an eos 3 with a variety of lenses in a waterproof housing. Most of the images in the water in this photo were shot with an 85mm lens 4d
  •   refr35h awesome! thx Todd. 4d
  •   marissapees Okay thanks! I just have a canon ae-1 and the ae1 program but I wanted to start shooting surfers and waves but I have trouble getting the exposure correct. Most of the time my negatives are overexposed when I shoot at the beach 4d
  •   matan_satan @toddglaser they always look silly when i do them because i'm always doing stuff for school in the last minute :D btw do you scan or print those? Are editors interested in publishing film shots? 4d
  •   aloha_bigmike Sweet! They look great just little! 3d
  •   toddglaser @marissapees try using the BDE rule when you're shooting. It creates a more even negative and will hopefully be less likely to overexpose the negatives 3d
  •   toddglaser @matan_satan slow down! If you take the time to shoot and develope the photo, take the time to make a proper contact sheet or print. Editors like good images regardless of the medium it was shot with. Depending on the mag and the turnaround time determines what tool is used for the shoot. 95% of all of my personal work is shot on film. I like it more but that's not to say it is better or worse. Just my preference 3d
  •   matan_satan Yeah, i like it because i have to make a print to see the image, and then i end up with a "free" print :D 3d

toddglaser Friends in San Francisco. A good friend, fellow waverider, photographer, and producer of a number of great shoots and films including Castles In The Sky has a rare form of cancer she is fighting against. There is a fundraiser tonight, Thursday 26th at 7pm. If you are in the area please stop by and show support. If you can't make it there is a link in my profile that you can click to donate. More information below..Thank You.
Minna Gallery
111 Minna Street
San Francisco, CA

Please join us as we come together to a fundraiser event for our friend Sandrine. Sandrine is a young 40-year-old woman who truly loves, and lives her life passionately. She has built a successful business in addition to being a surfer, tennis player and world traveler. In the midst of this vibrant life, Sandrine was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma cancer in October of last year.
This is a rare bile duct cancer that only 2,000 to 3,000 people are diagnosed with each year, and the average age of people with this diagnosis is 70. To fight this cancer, she is going through chemotherapy. We want to help her to start an alternative treatment which is unfortunately very expensive. As the months have passed, Sandrine has been a fierce fighter, but she can no longer fight. Your generosity will bring us closer to make Sandrine’s treatment possible.
Please join us for tasty cocktails, great music, a raffle, silent auction and a gathering of amazing friends. We also will have Mitch Franco, Big Wave Surfer and DJ Keala Kennelly and Girls'n Boomboxes as our music guests!
If you can't attend you can still donate at: http://www.gofundme.com/ls4nrg

toddglaser Time has a way of flying by way too fast. Days turn to weeks, which turn into months and years. Today I came across this scan of @knostthankyou in Biarritz during the Duct Tape Invitational in 2011 or 2012. I can't remember exactly. No metadata on the negatives! (Bad photographer joke). Anyways. It got me thinking to when I used to intern for @kevinzacher while I was still in Photo school. He was kind enough to welcome me into his studio and bring me on a few shoots as well. One of the perks of the internship was being able to sort through his collection of snow images. His approach to the snow game was unlike anyone else's I had seen. When most were shooting 35mm and color slide. He was dragging Mamiya RZ 67's and Hasselblads into the backcountry with high speed BW film. From that point on I was hooked. I remember when he switched from the Kodak 3200 to Ilford 3200 and how kodak printed better but Ilford scanned better. Long story short. His work and patience was a big inspiration to shoot BW. Most importantly to have fun while doing what we love to. Here's Al on his way out to have fun doing what he loves..surfing! #whyIsurf 6d
  •   moderate_distractions Tip Top Story! 6d
  •   toddglaser Those things were tanks!!! Do you still use yours? I shot with one a few times but prefer the hassy. Much lighter. The Mamiya 7 is great for 67 too! Yeah. The Polaroids ruled!! @toddmessick 6d
  •   toddglaser We're all part of the tribe! @kevinzacher 6d
  •   toddmessick Haven't used it for a while, but thinking about pulling it back out for some 6x7 goodness! Used to shoot fashion with it in the Ghetto! Always Figured if shit went down, I'd use that thing as a weapon! With the Vertical Grip... Lethal!!!! YeW! Keep up the Great work Todd @toddglaser 6d
  •   toddglaser The RZ67 could do some serious damage!! Bring that bad boy back out!!! @toddmessick 5d
  •   lucanohinklefoto Happy B day todd, hope to see you down in puerto some time. This summer 3d
  •   toddglaser Thanks @lucanohinklefoto it looks like swell coming there soon! I hope to get down there and swim you and Edwin this summer! 3d
  •   lucanohinklefoto Always a great leaning experience. ! Cheers buddy 3d

toddglaser I've spent the last few days going through old harddrives and film. Came across this clip of @kellyslater on a late afternoon session at Kirra. The afternoon light there is some of the best in the world. Kelly shot the cover of the @gopro book on this day. It might have been this wave actually. #goingright 1w

toddglaser Looking through some older images today I came across this clip of @patmillin shot with a @gopro on top of my regular housing. The loud clunks are from my shutter going off. Sorry for the high pitched squals too. I was frothing! @surfer_magazine @matuseinc 1w

toddglaser A lot of travel and last minute decisions go into finding the waves that we shoot photos of.

This image of Balaram Stack @_balaram was shot in the airport in Panama where we had all planned on chasing a swell to less than 24 hours before. Balaram had been on a whirlwind travel tour before. I found him asleep on his boardbag next to the ATM machine in the Panama City airport. Moments later it was straight to the laptop to check the swell and jump in a taxi to the next airport before our final destination. More images and stories to come soon.

Photographically speaking this was shot with a 500C Hasselblad with black and white film. @surfer_magazine #surferphotos #whyIsurf

toddglaser @mfanno shot near his home during a big rainstorm similar to the cyclone hitting there now. The waves were really good and we had a shot list that needed to get done. Although this was shot digitally the rain looks like grain which I like. In a weird way this has become one of my favorite images from this stretch of coastline. This shot couldn't have been made possible without the help of my man @st_seantaylor holding the umbrella over our heads so the gear didn't get wet! Mick Fanning. toddglaser Walking down to the beach to decide whether or not to shoot water or land in the near dark on this morning I wasn't surprised to see Nathan Fletcher already in the water getting tubed under the full moon. High speed film and shooting wide open allowed this image to be captured in near darkness. @surfer_magazine #surferphotos 2w

toddglaser Going through a harddrive of a week long surfing/camping/hiking adventure. More than 1500 miles travelled and lots of water time in between. It was a lot of fun getting to see everyone and thank you to all who opened up their homes and shared their slices of paradise with us. I'm looking forward to sharing some waves again soon!! . #surferphotos #surfedout 2w

toddglaser The last week of waves was nothing short of amazing. The only thing missing was the rain which California needs now more than ever. As nice as the 75 degree days and all day offshores, a good week of rain would be a lot more useful. For now I guess we have to be thankful for what we got and the waves that we've had. @surfer_magazine #surferphotos #wentright 2w

toddglaser To my friends in Hawaii. Tonight is the grand opening of the newest collaboration between @kevinancell and @kellyslater titled #thePOD at the Modern Hotel in Waikiki. 21 beautifully shaped and drawn on boards will be on display to raise awareness for the conservation of whales. If you are in the area be sure to check it out. I was lucky enough to be in Hawaii during the making of these boards and document the making of them as well as shoot this quiver shot which is about half of the boards that will be on display. Check it out!!! 3w
