therst Northern Water Snake. They always bite. This one was pregnant. And it looks like it's going to have quite a litter. These snakes store eggs inside of themselves, and give birth to live young. Baring as many as 30 snakes at a time. #herpetology #herping #snake 4d

therst The devil scorpion (Vaejovis carolinianus) I previously thought it to be a Brown Bark Scorpion. At any rate, they are tasty little devils. 2w
  •   drilone I just found out we have scorpions where i live but the sting is like a bee sting. 2w
  •   therst @drilone yeah from what I've read this is more of the same. It'll hurt up to a half hour, but basically gone after that. Unless you are hyper-sensitive to the envenomation like with people allergic to bee stings. Then...you're in for a work of hurt 2w
  •   drilone @therst yeah I think only the bark scorpions are painful and they are only 3 of scale 1-5 2w

  •   mrjaymyers Often they have beards. Which is funny considering most (not all) natives didn't. 2w
  •   therst @mrjaymyers from what I've heard there were two kinds. The bearded ones had red hair, not unlike the leprechaun legends. The others looked very similar to average sized Cherokee. 2w
  •   mrjaymyers @therst interesting. I will look more. 2w

In the fall they migrate back to their wintering grounds. I go to specific terrain to find specific species. I love it this season. 1mon

therst The Blue Racer. I found this same snake 5yrs ago in the same area. Ironically, I was even telling the story of my first encounter with it, while I happened upon her again. She a beautiful old gal who's been eating well from the looks of it. I'll post some video so you can see the blue and gray coloring these are famous for. These snakes are actually considered endangered, so it's exciting to see one so old. #snakes #herpetology #reptiles #snakerd #herpin #nature #blueracer 1mon
