theprlife For some reason my back didn't like yesterday's workout.. Okay it may have been the high weight + high reps I was pounding out... but still - It's FRUSTRATING. It sucks to be held back my injury when you're so focused but your body tells you when it's go time and when to break. I'm going to let this heal and not let it hold me back. #iceicebaby

theprlife I haven't posted many progress pics lately and it isn't because I've gone off track or haven't been working out - it's because I've been struggling with a fitness theme lately that I can't get off my mind: hyper-sexualization of the fitness industry.
I'm not going to say posting revealing progress photos of yourself half naked (or some, nearly completely naked) is wrong, because I don't think it is. If you feel secure in your own body and are happy to show it off - seriously good on you! But where do we draw the line?

Fitness and health is hard work. It takes dedication, continuous effort and practice to be able to work your body in a way that makes it stronger and healthier than the day before. The problem for many people is that we live in a world where instant gratification is no longer a pleasant surprise - it's an expectation. We don't need to work hard for things because we can buy them with money almost instantly whenever we want them.
The thing with your body and gains however.. is that you have to be patient and put in hard work. You'll never be able to go from lifting 10 lbs - to 50 lbs with one arm overnight. You'll never get a six pack by running yourself into the ground, and you'll never lose weight if you can't make a constant change to your diet. It take years to progress to achieve results like that.
I said something to a friend the other day that made her stop and say 'hey, that was really cool.' I said, "I work so hard on my body that I really want to start using it to do fun things it couldn't before." What I mean is that I want to be able to enjoy my life and have incredible experiences that only the hard work I put into my health and body can provide.
That, is why I work so hard and stay dedicated.
Instead of focusing on 'losing weight' or 'getting stronger' maybe we should all think about fitness in a way that answers the question: What do you want to be able to use your body for that will give you a better quality of life?
