tennantlim Picked up a nifty skill last Sunday morning. In truth, my bow arm was trembling from exhaustion in this photo after several rounds of practice.

tennantlim Bad guys doing good on Star Wars Day. The boys made their rounds in the children's wards and it was heartwarming to see the children light up when we walked in. Props to Walt Disney Indonesia and Ogilvy Indonesia for making this milestone happen. 3w

Ibu Marwah suffers from speech impediment and communicates with aggressive hand gestures. She is physically very strong and commands a sense of authority over her peers. Her youngest son Selo (out of four boys) takes after her and behaves like a boss too...a rather adorable one

It was refreshing to interact with kids who are not constantly engaged with mobile devices.

The sign tied to a pillar declares State regulations that prohibit unsanctioned access and utilisation of the land under the highway. It is public knowledge that for decades, the mafia who controls the territory would collect rental and land purchases from squatters, who are unable to afford proper housing, so they may continue to live in state-owned areas; under railways, bridges, highways, etc. A commission would be transacted with government officials who in return allow the illegal occupation by squatters. In a move to eradicate corruption and clear the city of slum areas, the Governor of Jakarta, Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, ordered for low-cost apartments to be built for squatters to be relocated to. However the resettlement process is hindered by resistance from squatters who have been living in the areas for decades. This is likely instigated by the mafia as they stand to lose a significant source of income following the successful resettlement of the squatters.

Without adequate healthcare, sanitation facilities and proper dietary provisions, the children in the community are constantly susceptible to illnesses, infections and even fatal diseases.

tennantlim Co-founder of Belajar Bersama Sjors Foundation Jenny with cover boy Idan, five. His mother, Ibu Prapti, was raped at the age of 17 and has been afflicted with mental disorder ever since. Her frequent emotional turbulence takes a toll on Idan as she would physically abuse him out of spite. As a consequence, coupled with his poverty-stricken living conditions, Idan would often have extreme mood swings; one moment he is beaming with joy, next moment he is sulky and would distance himself from everyone. He had gotten close with Jenny over the years and would sometimes beg for her, in tears, to take him along when she leaves for the day. 2mon

Located at the end of the alleyway, Ibu Nasrih set up a homemade tent where she lives with her mother (in this picture), husband and daughter Asti. Ibu Nasrih's mother is disabled and would sit in this position all day as the traffic passes by above her.
Immediately beside Ibu Nasrih's tent, trash accumulates continuously over the years and severely compromises the hygene condition to her household.

As we walked along the alley beneath the highway, the traffic above constantly stirred up dust that rained down on us. Watching this boy receiving a bath made me crave for one too.
