tempster_returns My old friend Ben Clark (@megapixel_vs_grain) started a new website selling darkroom prints from his massive archive of music photography. Each photo has a detailed description on how it was shot and the conditions of that night. Here's an example from the #Fugazi print: 8x10 RC Silver Gelatin Print, all prints are printed by me in the darkroom using Omega enlarger and high quality RC papers. Fugazi played 2 nights at The Palace in '99. This pic is from one of those nights. There were no photo passes and Fugazi always seemed to have the stage lit with zero color gel light show lighting. This allowed for the best non flash pics at shows, specially for shooting high speed black and white print film. I don't think there was even the 3 song limit rule that is at every LA/Southern CA show for bigger venues. Which is a pretty goofy standard considering your probably going to get the better pics midway or close to the end of a bands set. Either way was and still is one of my favorite live bands ever. When a band plays so good it makes you want to follow them around the country to see as many shows as you can, they must be doing something right.
Here's the website:

  •   tempster_returns @jay_porta I think @suspenzo was more shocked that a handmade darkroom print was for sale for only $20. It's not a book. It's a website selling prints. They are 20 bucks. Very affordable for a real darkroom print made by the artist who shot it. 1d
  •   tempster_returns Just because Fugazi kept their prices low, that doesn't mean a book publisher has to sell a book for 5$. It costs more than 5$ to make a book most likely. 1d
  •   el_chelle_oh $20 for a print of an awesome band is a great deal. Whiney babies 1d
  •   paqman13 Ed should sing for Minor Threat. 1d
  •   suspenzo @tempster_returns @jay_porta My mistake! I actually thought that was a photo of the show bill. I was thinking of their classics $5 show. Nothing unreasonable about that price for a print though! 1d
  •   marshallshuster I think he's practically giving them away for that price. I wonder what the going rate for this is? 1d
  •   sheenbing @dominiknikki let's go 1d
  •   speciallordb They are limited to around 20 prints each I think, so don't snooze! At $20 they will all be gone quick 1d

tempster_returns Give us money for our clever ruse, our attempt to trick and deceive you. Every time I hear the word 'ruse' I think of Clerks, when Randall berates a customer for trying to trick him. These metal rod theatrics are real hot in Europe right now, and it's spreading to the US. "Hey honey, wanna go sit around for a few hours?" #dailyhbpierphoto 2d
  •   djimwiththedj #specialhead isn't so special anymore. 2d
  •   jonny_quest They were all the rage in India during the late 1800s #fakirs 2d
  •   rzafrombrixton Hmmm Ed your opening gambit about said ruse would appear hyper critical of people performing "tricks" for monetary gain. Whilst crude and lacking in the skill it takes to be a "performer" on a skateboard (please don't anyone say they are athletes) are they not simply selling an illusion much like competing companies convincing Tweens that hard rock maple decks with a different graphic and pro endorsement will help you become a better skater than another hard rock maple deck? As @chrisfedor says without the these threads the tapestry of life would be incomplete. 2d
  •   tempster_returns @rzafrombrixton quite right, but am I not allowed poetic license or an opinion? I don't fault anyone for making a buck, and I get a kick out of street performers, I shoot them all the time. I was just thinking of another way to look at this, that being that they are tricking you to the point where you are so entertained that you give them a dollar for their effort. Like a magician. But then I thought of the word 'Ruse' and went on a tangent. My whole life I turned 'tricks' for money. I'm still doing it. I saw nothing 'critical' or "hyper" critical in my comment. 2d
  •   rzafrombrixton Acknowledged and appreciated. I was using the term "hyper" to describe the complex detail your poetic licence had lead me to believe you wee being "critical" and in turn have come across as being hyper critical myself. 20h

  •   blueimagery Hey, Ed. Has it ever occurred to u that your way of viewing things, being a skater and artist, at odds with how the normal society sees things? 1d
  •   tempster_returns @blueimagery I hope so! 11h
  •   blueimagery :) haha! Radical, man! Can I suggest something to u, as related to toy machine? I think u should have an open drawing contest to have a board issue every other time period of your choosing. There are a lot of good artists out there that would fit the toy machine brand. Just my two cents. Thx for replying to my question. 1h

tempster_returns My little brother doesn't even need a leash, I'm a feral dog boy, you can't control me. "You can't kill me, I'm already dead." -Charles Manson / a man was walking on the pier today counting some money when the wind, that filthy thief, stole a dollar from his quiver and fluttered it over the edge of the pier and down to the sand. The entire family rushed to the rail and looked longingly at that dollar floating down to rest, then sitting there is the sun, just waiting for the passer by to run up and snatch it - it's my lucky day! - Decisive action needed to be taken and acted upon right away. Suddenly, the boy, chubby, started to run to the foot of the pier. Deanna and I watched him round the corner and bound down the steps, Froggering the bike path and trudging quickly over the sand navigating towards his family's wayward dollar bill. When he retrieved it the family was elated, nobody had attempted to steal it, the boy held it up over his head - the universal sign of "Look I got it!" And waved cutely at his mother who pulled out a camera and shot a picture of her son, beading with sweat and waving the paper in the air. We walked on, the only other people who were privy to this episode outside of the family. 3d

tempster_returns These kids bussed and skated from Orange, CA to check out the pier on a hot day. Reminded me of the times #JasonLee and I would skate down the bike path to Newport Beach to skate some random spots, then bum quarters for bus fare back to #HuntingtonBeach. Sometimes we would take the bus up Beach Blvd to La Mirada to skate something. Those halcyon days of youth. #dailyhbpierphoto 3d

tempster_returns The smell of sizzling oils and charred meat that has been roasting over coals all day hovers over the asphalt. Girl after girl walks by with oversized stuffed animals and characters that cover their entire body, the long bare legs gyrate under these future landfillers topped by the prerequisite high and tight shorts. The money spent to win buys you the prize of carrying this burden the remainder of your stay. A portly family are plopped on a table like 3 deflated bouncy balls, the flanks spread out swallowing the bench whole - each one with a glistening leg of lamb "Texas sized" stuffed into their faces - little bits of spittle and gristle dot their jowls. @nolannow and @devinbriggs are drawn to the oversized camera. We wanna steal this thing it would look nice in Nolan's backyard. #OCfair 4d
