tavitulle Only 22 shows left, which is not a lot when you've already done over 200 and are still not at all sick of it. If you like laughing and feeling things and feeling MANY things at ONE TIME because LAYERS (oh my god, this is my favorite play, it is so special, I am heartbroken), then you have until January 4th to experience the (sad/bittersweet/ah, youth) magic. Also: if you are 30 or under, look up the rush policy for cheaper tickets! 1mon

@matsor showed me his song with @charli_xcx for this album months ago and basically everyone I know has had to deal with me talking about how annoyed I was that he wouldn't send me the track to own and then when itunes started streaming the album and I was like woooo and now it's HERE. Their song is "need ur luv" but the whole thing=

  •   erikashmir @ally_blackmon look, the system of slavery has had a lasting impact on our society. There are historical ripple effects: blacks' rights were still being *explicitly* limited by the government only 50 years ago--and almost 100 years after slavery was abolished. And 10 years after segregation was ruled illegal by the Supreme Court, integration was simply not happening, and black schools' resources were still way inferior to white schools'. Poor education-->poverty, crime, and ignorance, etc. Things like ignorance and poverty and very, VERY hard cycles to break, even in our country. THAT is why affirmative action exists. Affirmative action evens the playing field; and if you're one of those people who trusts the law so much that you think it justifies murder, you should find relief in the fact that it's actually illegal to implement any kind of affirmative action that leads to reverse discrimination. My main point is that from the beginning, blacks and other minorities have had to work harder than whites to make the most of their opportunities. White privilege DOES exist, and sadly white supremacy DOES play a role in our society. The fact alone that Obama is hailed as "our first black president"--the fact that seeing a black person in a position of power is a NOVELTY to Americans goes to show you how real white privilege is. 2mon
  •   erikashmir @ally_blackmon however, I do agree with you on the point that people should not be hired to JUST to fill a certain quota. But that's why affirmative action targets intelligent--not stupid--minority students. As for the police department, I don't know how their hiring process works, but they sure as hell need to improve their training methods... 2mon
  •   erikashmir Also, racism does not magically disappear simply because there are laws in place to curb it. Once again, the school segregation issue in the 60s and 70s is a good example 2mon
  •   erikashmir ..but if that example is too dated for some of you, just look at what's happening right now with these cases. Racism is hard to pin down: we don't know exactly how these police officers' brains work, but that Garner video screams racism to me. Had Garner been an obese, nonthreatening WHITE man, I seriously doubt that the situation would've gone down in the same way. The way that people claim that racism doesn't exist, and that race wasn't an issue in these cases, just calls to mind the same distorted, self-justifying white mentality that came up with the "Separate But Equal" clause. It really is sad, because it's simply the result of unchecked ignorance 2mon
