surfline Local winds are critical when it comes to determining surf conditions. That’s why Surfline has developed a network of high-resolution wind models to help you score. These models are run at various spatial resolutions based on local needs and display wind barbs (or arrows) that provide wind speed and direction. Check out 'Understanding High-Res Wind Models' on #Surfline for more details. #SurflineForecast 14h

surfline We have a special treat for you this week: a double #PurpleBlobOfTheWeek ! The blob in the southeast Indian Ocean is thanks to an intense storm, and adjacent high pressure, that has been cranking out 40-55 knot wind over the last couple days and seas in excess of 50 feet. Solid to XXL swell from this high/low combo will impact various parts of Australia from #WestOz to Victoria over the next few days. The swell will eventually find it’s way to Fiji for the opening rounds of the Women’s #FijiPro and produce some excellent waves at Cloudbreak. The purple blob in the southwest Pacific near New Zealand has been battering the land of the long white cloud for the past couple days and will send a pumping swell to Tahiti/French Polynesia later this week along with good to excellent wind conditions. Fun to medium size SW swell will eventually move into the Americas as we head into early June. Be sure to check the #SurflineForecast for the details in your local area. 1d

surfline With less than a week before the start of the #wsl Fiji Women's Pro, #SurflineForecast is monitoring a powerful storm in the southern Indian Ocean that looks set to deliver very solid swell for the early days of the contest. This storm has exceeded guidance with satellite measured seas topping 50ft start of the new week (see image). Assuming the storm continues to progress as expected, we will see good swell for Fiji the first half of next week. Be sure to check #surfline on Tuesday for the initial contest forecast from @SPerrySurfline. 3d

surfline Today, the surf community honored the life of Shawn 'Barney' Barron who passed away on May 5th at 44 years old. Hundreds turned up under foggy skies at Mitchell's Cove to remember the man who's futuristic surfing and quirky, generous spirit touched all he came in contact with. RIP. Photo: @chachfiles 4d

surfline Pretty much every major ocean basin BUT the North Atlantic has #PurpleBlobOfTheWeek potential right now. Last week’s PBOTW, Typhoon Dolphin, has transitioned to an extratropical storm east of Japan, and looks to flipper its way into another blob in the NPAC this weekend (and no, this isn’t fall!). Meanwhile, we'll have blobbage littering the South Indian, South Pacific, and South Atlantic over the next several days. However, the storm that is standing above all others at the moment is the system that moved out from under New Zealand earlier this week. This storm had satellite confirmed winds/seas in excess of 50kts/40ft on Monday and will be responsible for the second of a pair of solid swells about to impact French Polynesia and beyond over the next few days. We’re also watching for more storm/swell activity from this general location in the SW Pacific over the next several days – so be sure to check the #SurflineForecast in your destination of choice for further details. 1w
