strauja84 In need for help and care. Blind, cold, alone, hungry and sad. 3y
  •   luisacuestav Did u help? 3y
  •   strauja84 @luisacuestav right after taking this photo police officer came up to him and brought him away. I had a talk with another beggar there, cause of Chinese New Year temple area was crowded and that had attracted people asking for money, most of them are brought in from Anhui province. Yes, brought in - as in organized illegal business, they are exploited to beg money from which themselves receive only a small part as a payment. Usually they 'serve' 2 months and then return back to their home towns. I chose not to support the business by giving money, I give snacks or instant noodles which nobody is taking away from them. They are in trouble and need help. 3y

strauja84 Chinese New Year. As e 3y
  •   strauja84 Every year during Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) the temples are crowded with worshipers till late. This photo is taken after 2am, when I left it was 4am and there were still a lot of people. As always there is plenty of police, crowd control barriers, temporary entrance gates (like the ones in metro), hundreds of people lining up for tickets, businesses (eateries, convenience stores, religious stores etc.) around temple opened till early morning hours, heavy traffic on roads leading to the temple, ticket scalpers and beggars on every other step. It's very live and loud atmosphere, wrapped in smoke and in scent of burned 'praying sticks'. A place definitely to experience on Chinese New Year if you ever have a chance. 3y
  •   kortess And when will be dragons ?)) 3y
  •   dilaoshi Cool I went here too :) rich and culture 3y
  •   strauja84 I have been going there for the last 2 years. If I'll be in Shanghai also for the next CNY I'll go there too. 3y

strauja84 Participate. Remember your citizen duty. | Piedalies. Tas ir tavs pilsoņa pienākums un atbildība. This year on 18th of February referendum on changes of constitution of Republic of Latvia is scheduled. The changes imply to modify several points in Latvian constitution regarding Latvian language status as the sole official language of Republic of Latvia. These changes are a threat to our language, what is the base of our culture, our identity. The only place where Latvian language can be protected is Latvia, it's spoken only by less than 2 million people world wide, on contrary Russian language has no threats to be marginalized or endangered, it's 4th in the world by total number of speakers (285 millions). Every language of 6909 languages spoken worldwide is precious, unique and a useful tool, Latvian is one of them, let's protect it's rights to be. 3y

@ikstena 3y

strauja84 Chinese New Year migration. Railway station. Monday the 16th of January, the beginning of the week leading up to the biggest Chinese annual holidays. About 130 million migrant workers travel back to their home towns to celebrate Spring festival, it's the time of reunion of families. For most of these people that's the only time during the whole year to meet their loved ones: parents, spouse, child. It is a huge and important part of migrant worker life. That is the biggest human migration in the world. 3y

strauja84 18th of November. The Independence day of Latvia, actually it's the foundation day of Latvia, a birthday. Every year Latvian community in Shanghai gets together to celebrate it. This year we had very warm and cozy atmosphere with almost 30 people to take part. The venue hosted by @krists_solovejs was great, Latvian music in background prepared by @liva_soloveja and grey peas prepared by Viktorija gave it a more like home feel. And of course, there are no other colors than those elegant red-white-red of Latvian flag that fits November the most, here @emaadee and Janis in elegant attire tailored specially for the festive occasion. 3y
