seanparkerphotography I just got done with my first live interview with @weatherchannel! I was extremely nervous but it was a fun experience. They aired this photo and my previous one. Did anyone watch?

seanparkerphotography Such an amazing lightning show tonight! I think this is my best shot of lightning over downtown Tucson! It's a single exposure from a timelapse I shot. See another favorite I posted on FB.

Update: I'm beyond thrilled to have my photo show nationally across all NBC broadcasts today, @weatherchannel, and the Good Morning America show. Thanks everyone for your comments and shares, I'm extremely grateful as it goes a long way in my book.

seanparkerphotography The 3 Sisters

Yesterday's chase was suprisingly awesome and shocking (more on that in a little.) I headed down to Vail, Arizona as soon as I saw some cloud developement happening on the radar. I didn't think much of it as it looked pretty weak and scattered but the formations continued to grow, so I kept heading south. I found a sweet spot near Sonoita Highway and pulled over to take some shots and stream the storm live on Periscope. I set up multiple cameras and even found a furry friend to hang out with while shooting (video on FB.) This is one of my favorite shots from this location. I caught this strike in a single exposure during one of the timelapses.

As soon as the sun was setting, lightning started popping up everywhere. I headed to another location down the road and started taking more timelapses when all of a sudden a lightning bolt struck nearby. I was almost collaposed because of how loud and bright it was. I never had anything hit that close since I'm pretty careful at keeping my distance. Most of you already know the story but for those who missed it, check out my recent photo showing the nearby strike.

Eventually I met up with my pal Mike Olbinksi and we headed to Benson to try and catch anything that was left over but we failed and headed home. What a day! I'm sad that monsoon season is just about over (monday probably) but I'm excited to share all the footage I've accumulated over the months! Also excited for some clear & dark AZ skies...finally!

On a side note: Good Morning America shared both my recent photos on air and social media this morning without permission and only tagged Thor in the photo. Pretty lame since I gave them permission to use it with proper credit. I voiced my opinion on their page, please back it if you feel this is wrong too.

seanparkerphotography "Too Close for Comfort"

Today I had a very close call with lightning....so close that it made me shake for minutes after. I can't recall the last time lightning struck so close but this was insane. All I remember was a big white flash and a raging boom and I was almost on my knees with my hands over my head. I immediately grabbed my cameras and ran back to my car to calm myself. An unforgettable expletive but I'm so glad my camera caught it.

After packing up and heading further south, I was back at it! From a safer distance of course... This was shot at 16mm and you can see where the strike actually hit leaving some sort of flare. I also love how you can see the glow from the prominent strike. 🏼 Fun stuff.

seanparkerphotography Next weekend's full moon will actually be considered a "supermoon!" What is a supermoon you might ask? It’s a new or full moon closely coinciding with perigee – the moon’s closest point to Earth in its orbit. I will be hosting a photography workshop / astronomy tour for this event at Spensers Observatory in Tucson Saturday, August 29th at 7pm. We will be taking very detailed photos of the moon, Saturn, and a few other objects through state of the art telescopes. Joining me will be Astronomer Robby Tacket who inspired me to get into this type of photography.

Join us for a night filled of astrophotography and astronomy. Price is $125/pp and limited to 5 participants. More information and registration is on my website!

seanparkerphotography Perseid Meteor Shower in Joshua Tree - 2015

For the past week, the Perseid Meteor shower has been giving skygazers a show all around the northern globe. Right now (2:00am MST) if you go outside to a dark area and look NE, you can see up to 80 shooting stars per hour! If you can't watch tonight's peak, try again tomorrow night after midnight.
