sarahmclaughlin Miss Fort Bragg. So beautiful. Also, super excited/nervous for BSA's screening of Cowspiracy. I've been working on it for months with my other club officers and now we're only less than 3 weeks away. I can't wait but also ready for all this work to be over. I'm also super grateful for so many vegan companies that have been so generous in their donations for the screening! If you are a UCSC student: COME. #vegansofig #cowspiracy #ucsc #ucsantacruz #everyonecome #therewillbefreefood #vegan #oceanview 3d

sarahmclaughlin For some reason whenever I have a bad dream it's about getting sick, like developing skin cancer (last night) or some other disease. Medical issues give me anxiety big time. Luckily I shook it off this morning and I'm feeling better now, usually it makes my whole day negative. Maybe a walk later will help clear my mind. #vegansofig #ucsc #uppercampus #redwoods #anxietyproblems 3d
  •   mommyrunfast Oh weird! Yes, fresh air and exercise should help! 3d
  •   sarahmclaughlin @mommyrunfast I went on a 3 mile walk after class. Exactly what I needed. 3d
  •   be.sol.ful How scary!!! That would give me anxiety, too! Glad the walk helped 🌲3d

sarahmclaughlin "So the tree rustles in the evening, when we stand uneasy before our own childish thoughts: Trees have long thoughts, long-breathing and restful, just as they have longer lives than ours. They are wiser than we are, as long as we do not listen to them. But when we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy. Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness." -Herman Hesse #santacruz #ucsc #ucsantacruz #vegansofig #trees 6d

sarahmclaughlin Had such a nice hike in upper campus this morning after forcing myself to get out of the apartment and be active. I love hiking as a form of exercise. It's good for the body and the soul. There's no rush, no hurry just nature. I don't think I'll be able to get back into running even though I've tried in the past because of forcing myself to do it everyday when I was dealing with ED. But hiking...hiking feels good. Hint: turn sound on for the beautiful sounds of trickling water. #ucsc #ucsantacruz #santacruz #vegansofig #plantpowered #plantbased #hikingtrails 1w

  •   theveganchemist I love homemade sushi ! fruit sushi sounds amazing. What kinds if fillings? 1w
  •   sarahmclaughlin @theveganchemist carrots, cucumber, avocado, smoked beets, spicy tofu mayo mixture, (sweet potato and tofutti cream cheese was a good combo), and we had green jade rice and regular sushi rice. The fruit sushi was sushi rice cooked with coconut milk, a little sugar and then the rolls were a variety of mango, pineapple, blackberries, strawberries and had a raspberry dipping sauce. Really good! The coconuty rice was awesome. 1w

sarahmclaughlin You know how once you see something you can't unsee it? Like the picture of a rabbits head but then you look again and start seeing it as a ducks head? That's how I feel about Veganism and why it's so hard to explain to people. Once you see the absolute absurdity in consuming other animals milk, eggs and flesh, the cruelty inherent in ending a living beings life or exploiting their reproductive organs so that you can profit or benefit from them, anything but Veganism seems so strange. It's like a veil lifts and your viewing society as an outsider and you want to say "Stop! Look what we're doing!" But most people don't get it because they can't see the image the way you're seeing it. They can't see a world where we don't consume the flesh, milk and eggs of other species. If the situation was reversed wouldn't it be strange? If other species used us for our flesh, milk and eggs when they could survive without doing so. That's why it's so frustrating sometimes to try to explain Veganism to people. It seems so logical to me. Why would I be anything else? But for many they can't see anything but the rabbits head. #vegansofig #animalrights #hadaroughday #animalliberation #meatindustry #meatismurder #dairyiscruel #eggsarecruel #animalagriculture #activismoutoflove #eatnoharm 1w
  •   sarahmclaughlin @raspberrydaydream same. Or drinking milk! It's like how can we not see that cows milk isn't meant for us? 1w
  •   henderson_1 Yes! Absolutely. Perfectly said. I think about this all the time. I like to go to my local coffee shop in the morning, and they offer almond milk, so I order the almond milk latte. And every day I listen to just about every person in line in front of me order what I call a "cow abuse latte" ... I guess the answer is to keep fighting the fight and keep being animal rights advocates and activists. 1w
  •   sarahmclaughlin @henderson_1 yes. That's all we can really do. It can be super frustrating at times. 1w
  •   be.sol.ful YES!!!!! Makes me sad because my brother and I watched the same news segment all those years ago about slaughterhouses - I'm vegan and he continues to eat meat. I have images tattooed in my brain and will never forget what I saw. 1w
  •   onebiteatatimex Perfectly said! It seems so absurd and cruel when I see someone eating meat or drinking milk like how? 1w
  •   wildheartlucy I read this on @torontopigsave 's page & it very much resonated- thank you. My experience was as you described; a veil lifted. That said, this has only been a recent change for me despite previously describing myself as a lover of animals yet not making the connection between meat consumption & suffering. Human kind are beautifully vulnerable but this makes us open to exploitation by clever marketing & conditioning. To stop ourselves looking inwards, we are taught from childhood to focus on the outer... Especially consumption whether it is of clothes/anti ageing creams/meat. For me, it feels like a switch has suddenly come on, but I do wonder if coming into contact with compassionate people over the years (who have been non judgemental & non aggressive towards me, but beautifully kind) slowly planted some seeds & gave me space & time to flourish. So, I guess that is what any of us can aim for, to plant some seeds & try to create a welcoming environment for them to start to blossom. Thanks for sharing 1w
  •   sarahmclaughlin @be.sol.ful it's so weird how for some people it just clicks right away and for others it takes so much longer. 1w
  •   sarahmclaughlin @onebiteatatimex yes! People just don't make the connection to what they're eating. That's why it's so important to speak up so we can make people aware of their impacts 1w
