sarahbures Before I left for The UK, @ilventidue gave me a compass on which he had marked the direction of NYC from England. So, from the top of a mountain in the Lake District, here's looking at you New York. I'm coming home. // #homewardbound #travel #lakedistrict #mountain #england 2mon

sarahbures Something I learned while hiking in the Lake District: the paths are easy enough to see that you can hike without a map. However, after you've climbed to the summit of a mountain and you decide go down a different way than you came, do not take the grassy path that appears to stretch in the direction you want to go. That path will lead you through soupy marshes, and past confused looking sheep, and won't in fact take you anywhere closer to your destination. No, turn around and go back to the graveled path that will, after a lot of winding, eventually take you where you want to go.

And when you see a spry elderly couple with waking sticks--follow them. They probably know where they're going. // #climbon #hike #mountain #sheep #grasmere #windermere #england

sarahbures So, I was walking up a narrow country road bordered by ancient stone walls when I came to a gate with a sign that said "public footpath." So I opened the gate and took the path, and then I ended up here. // #mountain #unintendedhike #climbon #mountainwoman #lakedistrict #windermere #england 2mon

sarahbures Arrived in Windermere today, and went for a walk up a one lane country road. I spent the majority of the walk alternating between uttering "holy fuck" at the scenery and giggling like a five year old at Christmas. Hopefully you understand. 2mon

sarahbures Arrived in Liverpool this morning and it being the birthplace of The Beatles, I decided to check out the museum. So I shelled out £12 for the ticket, and took my place in line among a group of white-haired tourists. Shuffling forward, I quickly found myself in one of the most gratuitous and annoying situations I've ever encountered. Between the recorded sounds of screaming fans (turned so loud that even my hard-of-hearing exhibit companions could say, "turn that down!"), and reproductions of various recording studios and clubs, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming desire to be absolutely anywhere else in the fucking world.

So, to the curators of The Beatles Story: if your goal was to make museum attendees hate themselves and also The Beatles, congratulations, you've succeeded.

  •   shellynew @ aye heard is was rubbish lol but them I am not keen on the Beatles - the docklands are nice for a walk round :) 3mon
  •   shellynew Hope your visit isn't ruined and your going to some nicer places that that one :) 3mon
  •   sarahbures @shellynew I'm a Beatles fan, so the museum was a disappointment, but it doesn't necessarily cloud my opinion of Liverpool. I'm headed to the Lake District tomorrow for some hiking far far away from contrived museum exhibits. :-) 3mon
  •   shellynew @sarahbures the lakes are lovely - glad your enjoying it ! Look forward it to your pics then :) 3mon
