robindmacdonald A mother and child featured in an upcoming episode. We document their struggle with the people who survive by killing them for a horn that is useless. 7h

The first portrait I snapped when arriving on location; also the first chance I had to test out my travel kit and see how my photo assistants worked together. @ricoh_imaging

robindmacdonald Boats and trash are a common sight along the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi. 3w
  •   joanrosss Sad about the trash ... But I love the picture @robindmacdonald 3w
  •   3catlover I am loving this series of pics. 3w
  •   sonya_shults Picture is beautiful, but I would have to find a rake and start cleaning. And hope others would pitch in! 3w
  •   kinsella_finn God knows they have enough people over there to clean it up 3w
  •   robindmacdonald Haha @kinsella_finn true. But since they all toss garbage on the ground it would be a vicious cycle of nothing ever getting cleaner 3w

robindmacdonald Two of many Varanasi street pups. 4w
  •   claytonkyman 🏼🏼 4w
  •   hwicked1 We're all thinking the same thing - your tribe is about to expand...again! 4w
  •   ngscholz I could never go there because of this. 4w
  •   robindmacdonald @ngscholz @sonya_shults @hwicked1 unfortunately I won't be bringing any back with me. For a couple of reasons.... I have two huge dogs that take a lot of work everyday, and the import of dogs on airlines from India to North American is prohibited. So I would have to fly to turkey or another country first. The good news.... With a decent amount of money, it would be possible to spay and neuter the entire street dog population here with government assistance. So this could be a future project. 4w
  •   hwicked1 Bless you for all you have done for so many and for wanting to do more! Your two huge dogs are very lucky and no doubt missing Dad! 4w
  •   susanabo1 I, for one, wld contribute to such a project....what a good person u are! 4w
  •   brianlee005 @robindmacdonald That makes sense, was there like any adopters ito take care of the dogs in Varnassi? 3w

robindmacdonald Here in the most Holy place in India, the people live off the Ganges river. They wash in it when they are alive, and when they die, they are dipped in it before being cremated on its banks. Cremation sites are located at either end of the city, they burn the dead 24/7. Each site has a hospice that holds the sick and dying; when they pass away, they are moved to the flames. The sight of burning bodies is a common one here and in a way a calming experience. 4w
  •   perahardy All your photos have been amazing so far! 4w
  •   susanabo1 unbelievable photos...you are amazing 4w
