repstenyhoyer Today I was pleased to join with Representative Luis Gutiérrez and other House Democrats to discuss our continued efforts to educate individuals and families about the President’s immigration executive actions. Despite the ruling from the lower court in Texas earlier this year, I expect that the President’s authority to set immigration policy will be upheld. I’m proud to be among the many House Democrats who have held, or will be holding, events in our districts to raise awareness about DACA and DAPA programs and provide helpful information. Ultimately, though, we need a long-term solution to fix our broken immigration system and I urge House Republicans to bring a comprehensive immigration reform bill to the Floor for a vote. 5d

repstenyhoyer Today I was proud to mark the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act, which occurred yesterday, by standing with my House Democratic colleagues and several Americans positively affected by the health care law. The Affordable Care Act is not only good for our nation’s families, but it is also good for the economy and good for the budget. 7d

repstenyhoyer Five years ago today, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law, opening the door to quality, affordable healthcare for millions of Americans. I was proud to have played a leading role in moving that legislation through the House of Representatives as Majority Leader, and I will continue to work with Democrats in the House and Senate to defend the law. #ACAisWorking #BetterWithObamacare 1w

repstenyhoyer Today I spoke at a press conference with Representative Sheila Jackson Lee and House Democrats to urge Senate Republicans to stop delaying the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as Attorney General. She is extraordinarily well-qualified, she has incredible experience, and everybody agrees she will do an outstanding job. I urge Majority Leader McConnell to bring Loretta Lynch’s confirmation to the Senate Floor without delay. #ConfirmLynch 2w

repstenyhoyer The #GOPBudget disinvests in our nation’s future by ignoring the important priorities that keep our country competitive. “Share” or “like” if you think our budget should make the tough choices needed to grow our economy and help more hardworking Americans secure a place in the middle class. 2w

repstenyhoyer Today I laid a wreath with my House colleagues & Juanita Abernathy at the civil rights memorial in Montgomery, Alabama to honor the brave men and women who fought for equal rights fifty years ago. We should continue to honor them and their legacy by working to protect equal access to the ballot box for all Americans. #FPI15 3w

repstenyhoyer This weekend we mark the 50th anniversary of ‘Bloody Sunday,’ when on March 7, 1965, a determined group of Civil Rights activists set out from Selma on a march to the State Capitol in Montgomery to demand the right to register and to vote. They only made it as far as the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where they were confronted and attacked by state troopers and armed vigilantes. Many were badly injured, and my friend Rep. John Lewis was beaten nearly to death. Each year on the anniversary of ‘Bloody Sunday’ I am honored to participate in the bipartisan pilgrimage to Selma and Montgomery led by Rep. Lewis, and I am moved by the stories and the courage of those who marched in 1965 and have continued to fight for Civil Rights and the equal right to vote ever since. The right to vote must always be sacrosanct in America, and I hope Democrats and Republicans can work together to honor the heroes of Selma by bringing the bipartisan Voting Rights Amendment Act swiftly to the Floor and passing it. #Selma50 #BloodySunday 4w

repstenyhoyer Yesterday I joined House Democratic leaders at a press conference after the House passed a clean bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security for the remainder of the fiscal year. repstenyhoyer Today I testified before the House Budget Committee at their Members’ Day hearing, where I discussed budget priorities for fiscal year 2016, including the need to replace the harmful sequester. The across-the-board spending cuts imposed by sequestration force us to neglect long-term investments in our nation’s future prosperity. 1mon

repstenyhoyer With more than 11 million people having selected plans or having re-enrolled for 2015, the health insurance marketplaces are working and helping reduce the number of uninsured while enabling millions to receive cost-saving premium tax credits. This year’s open enrollment numbers ought to be a powerful reminder to the opponents of health reform that, in spite of fifty-six votes to repeal or undermine it and repeated litigation, millions of Americans are benefiting from it and wish it to continue. #ACAWorks #11MillionAndCounting 1mon
