The Girl at the Stockyard.
.
This was their second date and he insisted on taking her to his family's favorite, and rather expensive, Restaurant. She was a little uncomfortable with the idea as she was a girl from simple means and feared she'd feel out of her element. He, on the other hand, seemed rather unaffected by social status. He was as much at home at a hot dog cart as he was at a Michelin Star draped establishment. He was different, a fact she was anxiously aware of. Even though her best outfit she wore was a mish-mash of outlet and thrift store procurements, his attention made her feel as if she were the most elegant in all the place. As she spooned in the last drop of her Lobster Bisque she realized that her eyes had been closed the whole time in complete culinary bliss. As she opened them she saw him staring at her with the gentlest of smiles, completely taking her in.
...and in that smile she saw her future.

Embrace.
.

A simple word really. One that right up until now she had always associated with intimacy. But now at this turning point had begun to take new form. A full acceptance rather than a surrender to her place in this life. Opening her eyes and realizing that she deeply loves and in return is deeply loved. Discovering, with each new day, a world full of beauty and fragility that offers renewed hope.

Christy.

"Wisdom is like a tree of life to those who embrace her"
______________________________________
I got to know Christy about six years ago when I took a group of high school kids to a music festival in the middle of a cornfield somewhere in Illinois. She helped me wrangle the kids and kept me from strangling a few of them. I noticed her tattoo when we spent an afternoon at the lake cooling off from the July heat, and I found it really fascinating. Now I've not always been a fan of tattoos, as a kid you'd only see them on the arms of Hell's Angels, Longshoremen or Charles Manson's forehead. However, Christy's was one of the first that open my mind to Tattoo's as a serious art form.
.
I've been formulating this shot in my head for the past several months and really wanted to bring a level of respect while showing her body art along with capturing her warmth and strength. I have a real problem with what some people try to pass off as art as an excuse to be crass, though I try not to judge. I'm a huge fan of artists such as @Alix_Carmichele (she has an amazing underwater series that is awe inspiring), @Killingmoon82 @Vandekreeke and @Foto_Wagner who really raise the bar to the art of capturing the human form. I thought of each of you at some point during this process.
.
Special props to my wife Diana who does killer make-up and loves to challenge my directorial control.

  •   jonesybklyn Beautiful shot and great tattoo! Thanks for sharing Brett. @recoveringmusician 1w
  •   pitch.hazel True, they've mainstreamed. I just think of the skin as being this beautiful organ all on its own. That and its permanent, I can't even stay with the same wall color more than a couple years before I want to change it. But I get it. Some of them really are beautiful or beautifully symbolic. I'm sure I'll have that battle ahead of me with mine too one of these days. You have to let me know if you go thru with it! 1w
  •   nattysxm Gorgeous 1w
  •   recoveringmusician @nattysxm thank you 1w
  •   fotoflocke I'd like to give a more detailed comment, but considering myself still a beginner pressing the "like"-Button is all I can do at the Moment. Perhaps I can add this one: I like the capture very much. 6d
  •   recoveringmusician @fotoflocke thank you so much for visiting my gallery, I really appreciate you taking the time. 6d
  •   woody95 Beautiful shot - I have never seen the beauty in tattoos, nature has perfected the body without them, in the mind of a very very late forty something, yet this challenges that idea ..... 5d
  •   christyjtaylor @woody95 just to explain the meaning of the tattoo in greater detail- In 2009 @sandicalistro made an image that had been brewing in my mind for 2 years a reality. "Wisdom is like a tree of life to those who embrace her" proverbs 3:18. It is to remind me to Embrace (tattoo on my wrist) self (little girl), knowledge (book), my music (bird) and the tree represents life and growth in all those areas. 2d

Ok, so as a dedicated "Vegan", the only thing Cooper would be on the hunt for would be some edible vegetation. I was able to spend some time with my boys, out exploring and taking some photos, something we use to do when they were kids. It takes a little more arm twisting to get them to pose for me now, but the time spent together is so much sweeter now.

Numero uno in a trio of Cooper's
______________________________________
Gotta say my kids are pretty dang talented in different ways. Cooper got my musician bug and is in hot pursuit. He has released a handful of EP's with the different bands he's playing in. I got to catch one of his recent shows and I have to admit I was pretty blown away. To watch him grow into a frontman that is focused and intense gave me goose bumps. He and his band were definitely a force to reckon with.

  •   michel_ohara I love this!!! I felt the same way when I saw my son play his first house party - it was like here was this whole other person I didn't know. The colors in this are gorgeous! Is it film? 3w

  •   chudo_nomi what a feeling; in awe, right ?!! 2w
  •   recoveringmusician @michel_ohara Sorry for the late response. I'd seen him perform a few times about two years ago. He was trying to find his style, so he was more like a wild animal, often with his back to the audience. But now...WOW! He planted his feet and leaned forward as if leading an attack. I was gobsmacked! This was shot with my Nikon D3000, my oldest son Tanner was filming the show with my Canon 5D Mark II. I was really fighting with the lighting then when I locked in I was getting amazing textures off the walls. Thank you Michel 2w
  •   recoveringmusician @chudo_nomi exactly. One of those proud moments when you see your child exceed all expectations. I use to observe as a mentor, now I'm more of a fan. Thanks buddy! 2w

Fully accepting the task that laid before her she couldn't shake the dread and fear welling up inside her. Though she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt the answers she sought lay somewhere beyond those walls.

Here's number two of three for the #sooc_challenge that @littleyellowflower and @mdaltonart invited me to take part in. no filter or edit (I did however crop it cuz it's hip to be square).
This shot has been sitting in my Dropbox for over a year now. That's my daughter @Emmerspems on the right and her best friend Sami. I just love when these two get together and the carefree hilarity that ensues.
.
I now pass the challenge to three people whose talents and techniques inspire me: @63Vip @614Scottsmith and @Lifeofstevestanton if you're up to it.

So since I have been invited by both the lovely and talented @littleyellowflower and @mdaltonart to take part in the #sooc_challenge How can I refuse. So here's shot #1 of 3, no filter or edit (I did however crop it to square, sorry but that's how I scroll).
This is one of those shots where I scratched my head as to how and why I would edit this. This was from the recent #InstameetClarksville with the talented and super friendly @epicshotphotography .

He never once regretted his decision to bring his bride back to the states and open their little restaurant downtown. Though lately he found himself missing Thailand more and more, and the life he lived as a photojournalist.

Though each couldn't fully comprehend what the other offered, theirs was an understanding. A soft smile, calm murmurings on a stormy night, and always a gentle touch, these were the things that made their world a safer place.
