pushbuffalo Workers at #McDonalds restaurants in the Boston area and in Virginia were fired last year after they were told that "there are too many black people (working) in the store." We're joining with the Coalition for Economic Justice #CEJbuffalo to let McDonalds know that we won't tolerate this type of behavior in #BuffaloNY and that this is even more reason to #RaiseTheWage to $15. We'll be outside the McDonalds located at 5316 Main St in Williamsville NY today, Fri Feb 27th at 12 noon. #FightFor15 4d

pushbuffalo We're excited that #PUSHbuffalo has caught the attention of organizations that do organizing throughout the world. We've caught the attention of folks like the Father Moses Coady institute of St Francis Xavier university in Nova Scotia. The #COADYinstitute that's been around since at least the 1950's, is a program at a university that teaches community organizing. They specialize in teaching courses and giving support to people in third world countries. They periodically conduct case studies on organizations doing the work around the world and publish the case studies in a book that is distributed around the world. There was one conducted on us and our case study will be published in a book to be released later this year. We'll keep you updated on a release date and events associated with it. #BuffaloNY 5d

pushbuffalo "After months of heated debate and deliberations, the Buffalo School Board on Friday agreed to adopt elements of teacher driven plans to correct four low-performing schools, rather than offer the buildings to charter schools as some board members had suggested." When we show up in big numbers, people listen. Thanks to all who participated and/or who supports #SaveOurSchoolsBuffalo We'll keep you updated on further developments. #BuffaloNY 2w

pushbuffalo #SaveOurSchoolsBuffalo the school isn't just a building, it's a member of the community. There's a "Vote Yes" rally this afternoon (Weds Feb. 11th) right before this evening's Buffalo Board of Education meeting. There have been redesign plans created by parents, students, and teachers for the 4 schools on the table that the board is considering closing. We along with a vast majority of this community want the board to "vote yes" on these plans instead of putting it off, in the hopes of selling our youth out to big businesses. It's happening at Waterfront Elementary School, 95 4th St #BuffaloNY The rally is at 4:30pm, the board meeting starts at 5:30pm. #Sustainability 3w

Nashville PUSH Buffalo
pushbuffalo #PublicTransportation is one of the most sustainable ways to travel. As much as #BuffaloNY or Western New York has a car culture, it has a bus culture too. There are people living here who have used this system their entire lives, and they've survived. Although the bus/train is not practical in all traveling situations, it does a pretty good job. Try it out sometimes. @gbnrtc #sustainability 4w
  •   dageegers The NFTA has a long way to go to be "pretty good". I gave up my car two years ago and I am constantly disappointed in the NFTA. 4w
  •   pushbuffalo Absolutely. The service and operation needs to be much better. Public transportation here is almost like a sub-culture, it's under the radar of being on the list of the top regional priorities. In our experience, part of the problem of getting anything done, is to first get more people to see that the problem actually exists. Like an abandoned house, a high gas bill, etc - once you get more people to see that something needs changing or is valuable, things start happening and things begin to move. 4w
  •   erby I used to take that same bus to Grant-Ferry all throughout the winter. It wasn't reliable but I was grateful that at least there was bus service. Too many people are separated by transportation inequity and the invisible divides that bus lines (or lack of bus lines) create. 4w
  •   gbnrtc Thanks for the shout out!! @pushbuffalo Definitely agree and to reiterate what you said, there's been a lot of progress, but still a long way to go. The more community awareness, involvement, & interest the better. It's great to see Transportation Secretary Foxx voicing strong support for transit-oriented development as funding for transportation will expire in May (as officials keep passing short-term funding solutions) hopefully they will pass a long-term funding solution this time around that is inclusive for all modes of travel. A long-term funding solution is definitely needed to help continue to provide safe and efficient means of travel. Presently, 66,749 bridges in the United States are deemed structurally deficient with more than 1,700 of these bridges located in Erie and Niagara Counties alone. A long-term solution for transportation funding will also greatly help organizations such as the NFTA provide, expand and better operate their services. If interested, a great way to get involved and learn more about planning in Buffalo Niagara is via One Region Forward. They have a free citizen planning school (in person and online) and they are having a community meeting on 2/12 open to all who are interested in creating a more resilient BuffaloNiagara Region in terms of land use, transportation, housing, energy and climate, access to good and more. 4w

pushbuffalo Another #winterinbuff pic from this morning. As we were walking through #BuffaloNY's streets and neighborhoods we came across these Weeping Willows. They actually talked to us. In quiet, but crying child like voices they said, "#sustainability helps in winter time conditions like today. The key to Buffalo, and its future has always been its close and walkable neighborhoods that have things that people need in short walking distances. We also need a shoveling, and snow barrel program." #winterstorm 4w
