primorizky Tauco or Tauchu is a paste made from preserved fermented yellow soybeans in Chinese Indonesian cuisine.

Tauco is made by boiling yellow soybeans, grinding them, mixing them with flour and fermenting them in order to make a soy paste. The soy paste is soaked in salt water and sun-dried for several weeks, furthering the fermentation process, until the color of the paste has turned yellow-reddish.

primorizky Benteng Heritage Museum was built on an old Chinese house.

At first, they thought it was an ordinary residential house. But when they discovered a relief of heroic journey of Kuan Kong / Guan Yu, an army general from Han Dynasty, the museum asked historian and found out that the house was an office for elite group or some kind of gentlemen's club.

primorizky In old Cina Benteng community, you can tell one family social status by looking at their house architecture. Painted ceramics like these consider as a luxury item which indicates rich family who lived in the house. 4d

primorizky Kelenteng Boen Tek Bio is the oldest shrine in Tangerang that was built in 1684 by Chinese community in Benteng / Tangerang. Up until now, the community still preserve original wooden structure of the shrine while other old shrines in Tangerang has been renovated with more modern materials.

The name Boen Tek Bio itself stands for humanity (boen), virtue (tek) and place of worship (bio). During New Order regime in Indonesia, they had to change the name since there was a massive nationalization into Vihara Padumuttara. However, vihara and kelenteng (shrine) is actually two different things; where vihara is a religious and spiritual place, kelenteng is more for tradition.

primorizky Caramelizing onions brings out their amazing natural flavor. They’re terrific on sandwiches and pizzas, over pastas, or in soups.

I personally like to add a dash of red wine to my caramelized onion as it gives a nice little kick to the flavor.

primorizky Made this sweet chilli jam last night from a bunch of bell peppers and red chillies. At first I thought it will taste weird, but I was wrong. This jam packs with sweetness and peppery taste and also a slight tangy flavor that comes from the apple vinegar.

I think this will work with fritters, cheese, or sandwiches.

primorizky When every single restaurant in Jakarta is trying to 'fancify' themselves with over-the-top presentation, that is not the case with this Spanish tapas bar.

Plan B is an unassuming restaurant which offers authentic Spanish cuisine. Hidden in Ruko Patal Senayan area, this establishment turns out to be expatriate's favorite.

primorizky This is a mega salad that has become the typical street food of Jakarta in Indonesia. Gado-gado means medley or potpourri, which refers to all the different seasonal veggies and ingredients that are used.

Tossed with the most incredible peanut dressing, which to be honest is more of a substantial sauce, and served with something crunchy on the side, such as prawn crackers, it's a winning combination.

primorizky What's better than a bowl of Chinese noodle for weekend brunch?

Thank you @misshotrodqueen who introduced us to Bakmie Win, a hidden gem for good noodles in South Jakarta.

Chewy noodle, well-seasoned chicken toppings, no MSG added. Yummm!

Oh, they also have a very nice bakso goreng and siomay...

primorizky I love collecting DVDs of Indonesian movie, especially the one which is thoughtfully-crafted and loaded with bonus materials including audio commentary.

I find audio commentary a very nice feature as I tend to find out trivial things about the movie while watching

primorizky 7 KM from the city center of Cirebon lies a natural lake known as Setu Patok. It is a maar or a crater that is formed due to volcanic eruption and filled with water to form a shallow lake.

The surrounding looks amazing with steppe-like landscape.
