posieshoots As we sink deep into Autumn leaves, I'm dreaming of Spring blossoms. Thanks for the #fromthecuttingroomfloor tag @mettemaia you'll be enjoying this gorgeous view next year too!! #canberra #spring #blossom #mountainslie #lakeburleygriffin Like to join in & share an unpublished image @creative_chicky @canberrabec @petaruddphoto?? 1d
  •   mettemaia Ooh I am so excited. So stunning ️ Your info about school counselling for defence kids has me looking in to public primary schools again. But it appears we'll be staying in Harrison... 20 km from where hubby will be studying... Apparently the school there is MASSIVE? I'm more in to smaller schools too... But if the classes are run well I suppose it could still work... 24h
  •   posieshoots @mettemaia we live in Gungahlin (next to Harrison) & there is a reason I've been driving to the city for smaller, older, traditional schools for the past 7+ years!! Harrison & Amaroo are super schools, preschool to year 10 (years 11&12 are separate colleges in the public school system) so I found the thought of 4 year olds & 16 year olds on the same 'campus' with 1500 + students, way too crazy for my petit little ones!! The schools were at capacity a year after they were built & have large class sizes. Not what I wanted. It's worth the drive & hey, my husband does the afternoon school run, picking them up on the way home. It works for us. On our final year of primary here so I'll miss the chance of having a child at school with yours, boo. 24h
  •   mettemaia Yeah I don't love the sound of those massive schools either... Would you send me a DM with the name of your kids' primary school, if you don't want it here for all to see? What's traffic like in Canberra?? 23h
  •   mettemaia Oh wait, I think you mentioned the name in another comment. I'll do some googling. 23h
  •   missbrianna31 How did you get in to the other school, when you're out of area @posieshoots ? 22h
  •   posieshoots @missbrianna31 it's a very 'inclusive' school who welcomes military families & at the time we arrived in Canberra, Harrison was brand new & couldn't accommodate my 4 children's ages (it only went to third or fourth grade) including our preschooler, the city schools offered us a place for everyone. Ahhh. Burgmann offered us a place for one twin??!! It was all a bit ridiculous. Very happy we are almost done with primary school & I love the two private colleges we've chosen for the children, for high school. 22h

posieshoots The old Shearer's Sleep Out on the farm was converted into a large hen house, with this peeling-paint-of-magnificence original door. Even better, when we gutted the rooms, a set of antique green Dutch doors where discovered under the floorboards, in perfect condition. #nothingwasted #rust #corrugatediron #recycle #door #paint #vintage #antique #henhouse #countrylife #bestdoorchallenge @kraig_at_the_warehouse 5d

  •   mrandmrscharlie Gold star here! 🏼🏻🏻🏻4d
  •   shellisparkle Is that Marshy's home? 4d
  •   posieshoots @shellisparkle yes, this is Marshy's front door. I took some snaps of him to send you, in all his free range glory!! @mrandmrscharlie there was an amazing bounty of goodies under this 'cottage' including flagons, vintage crates & cutlery. I kept everything. @scullerydaysvintage I love the history of recycling materials, 150 years of coastal dairy farm rust right there!! @mawsiepaws in high wind it sounds like it's going to blow down, yet it was made as solid as a rock 50 years ago, the framework is not going anywhere. @pheamy thank you, it's a pretty ace door indeed. 4d

posieshoots Monday morning . . . with an in-tray full of pretty magazines I need at action & teenagers to crowbar-out-of-bed as term 2 of school resumes. Have a happy start to your week folks!! #backtoschool #colour #pink #roses #intray #stationery #molliemakesmagazine 1w
  •   posieshoots @trickygirl October is our windy month!! Bring all the layers you would imagine for four seasons in one day. Always gorgeous blue skies, just freezing!! Honestly, just regular clothes & jeans + a warm jacket, so you can strip off by mid morning. You'll be fine. Canberra is cold, of course, we are high up on the Great Dividing Range & inland, however, we moved here from Darwin & love it, so fresh, crisp & clean, not sludgy wet!! You'll love it too. No matter how many amazing sites you visit, all the children will talk about is Questacon!! Enjoy!! Oh & look at jackets online after 'our' Winter in the sales, crazy cheap. 1w
  •   posieshoots @molliemakes love your magazines, have a few back issues to catch up on. 1w
  •   trickygirl @posieshoots I've got s lovely jacket but think I might get the kids a good zip up vest to wear over their tracksuit jumpers (over long sleeved t's, plus singlets etc) . Won't bother packing shorts then!!! 1w
  •   posieshoots @nedlolasmum I know right??!! Just dropped him off a delicious chicken salad I prepared this morning. Bus drivers have a holiday as part of their contract, dropping my girls at their schools was sheer chaos!! I always drive, but wow, you can see how much traffic the school buses keep off the road. We were well informed & prepared, advised to go extra early. Phew!! Anyway, they all look gorgeous in their Winter Blazers. 1w
  •   posieshoots @brandmentalist thank you!! @simplyspoiltlife only for the private schoolies, my year 6 pubic primary student is home today as his teachers have a student free day or ANZAC Day holiday. I don't think my daughters mind, excited to see their friends & get stuck back into work, oh & teachers strike tomorrow means they get the day off as my boy resumes school??!! Wednesday I'll finally be home alone & finishing off all the tasks I didn't complete in the break, like the dreaded wardrobes!! 1w
  •   posieshoots @bowerbirdjo_wanders thanks Jo!! Just threw a few pink things together for prettiness on a zero degree morning. @carobachi roses are always uplifting. Brrr, chilly start to the day Caroline!! 1w
  •   posieshoots @trickygirl oh bring shorts, my children always have bare legs!! Honestly, the days will easily be in the 20s, you'll get nice & warm, just chilly on the early starts & night tours. Hoodies are an incredibly handy item of clothing, warm & easy to stuff into a back pack. They'll have a ball, Spring is stunning here. I think vests are a great idea, keep their chests nice & snug. 1w
  •   myburgeoning I miss those magazine so much!! 1w

posieshoots Engaging children into the Spirit of ANZAC & understanding the sacrifices our military have made, flows simply from the story of Simpson & his Donkey. Glorified & some parts mythical, it's a beautiful 'story' about saving lives & hope, during a time of chaos & desperation. It's my earliest childhood memory of the ANZACs & my favourite sculpture at the Australian War Memorial. #Simpsonandhisdonkey #awm #anzacday #australianwarmemorial #poppies @awmemorial #wewillrememberthem #lestweforget #canberra 1w
  •   posieshoots @fuscia they are red poppies, wired into the crevices in the sculpture. The Wall of Remembrance is covered in them, next to the names of fallen loved ones & strangers alike. 1w
  •   myburgeoning I was telling an Aussie yesterday that one thing I love about Aus was reading the local authors and hearing their points of view. I learned so much! Jacki French has great young adult fiction (based an historical nonfiction) books that my daughter and I loved as well.. 1w
  •   fuscia Do visitors place them there? It's very intereting 1w
  •   posieshoots @fuscia yes, you purchase poppies 'by way of donation' & stick them into the sculptures & beside names. I'll tag you on another photo, so you can see the wall!! Over 102 000 names of the fallen are on it. 1w
  •   e_a_munro Thanks for your part in it Jennie! Service families are made of amazing stuff!!! 1w

posieshoots I like my feed to be all colour & positivity, however, hearing people complaining about not getting 'a day off' because ANZAC Day dare fall on a weekend?? Seriously, we don't commemorate this day so you can sleep in & have a long weekend!! These serving veterans have to go to work on Monday . . . only person in our household having the day off is our 11 year old son, as he goes to a public primary school??!! #priorities #welcomehomeparade #Afghanistan #anzacparade #awm #canberra #anzacday #havesomerespect 2w
  •   tritiae No holiday...heartbreaking. Never mind, the coffee on sale at the Dawn Service will help ease the pain. ?! #doingittoughliketheDiggers 1w
  •   caldesignsydney Totally agree with you Jennie 1w
  •   lovelovelady Yep, you've nailed it, Jennie! Truly heartbreaking what these commemorative days have become. Thank you to your family for the sacrifice xx 1w

  •   posieshoots Hey @taniamccartney this was a shot from the Welcome Home Afghanistan March, last month. I had emergency surgery on a tooth, Friday afternoon, so I was in bed & not the dawn service or the March yesterday, just couriering my husband around to events. He had fun, I'm on anti inflammatories & ABs. 1w

posieshoots If you get the chance, visiting the Australian War Memorial at dusk, is something else. A bugler plays the haunting Last Post & 'a name' on the Wall of Remembrance is read out, with all the details of their background & military service. It's an incredible experience & meaningful way to pay your deepest sympathy & greatest respect. #awm #australianwarmemorial #wallofremembrance #anzacday #dusk #wewillrememberthem #lestweforget #canberra @awmemorial 2w
  •   baamekniits I used to live 500mtrs from the war memorial, it's a special place. 2w
  •   craftyrie It's my most favourite building in Australia. 2w
  •   the_masters_styling Jen does this happen everyday? Xx 2w
  •   posieshoots @the_masters_styling yes Lou, at 5p.m. everyday, as the AWM closes, everyone gathers along the corridors & around the Reflection Pool. They choose someone different. When I last went, they featured Corporal Cameron Baird, VC MG & it was very heartbreaking & recent, he was so incredibly successful in every aspect of his life. @craftyrie the number one tourist attraction too Marie, it's an extraordinary place. @baamekniits of course, it's perched in the perfect position. Love this area, I drive past every day & always consider the sacrifices that have been made for our country & way of life. 2w

  •   bec_growinghome It's been so windy around here, but even worse over Newcastle/ Central Coast way. I want to stay inside & drink tea all day to get over this cold I've had, but if I want soup to take to work the next few days, I'll need to go out & buy vegetables. Dilemmas! 2w
  •   faeryfay 2w
  •   karyn_2315 Oh yes it was biblical I can't believe today isn't ANZAC day it normally is exactly this every year on that day then Winter hits it's a few days early I'm not impressed 2w
  •   posieshoots @karyn_2315 I know, I even weakened yesterday & put the ducted heating on for a few hours as the children were icey. It's poor form to use heating before ANZAC Day!! @faeryfay very welcome cup of tea. @bec_growinghome indeed. My husband is on course in Newcastle & some of the instructing staff can't get to the base as they're stuck at home in floods & downed trees. I'm off for a driving lesson. She has already done day, night, rain & wind experienced driving, now it's cyclonic. @shequiltsalot brrr, you can tell ANZAC Day is close. Not only is it cool but you throw yourself outdoors at 4a.m. to pay your respects. 2w

  •   bec_growinghome @posieshoots I made do with what was in the house instead. Experience driving in cyclones is always handy skill to have! 2w

I used to babysit them in my school holidays, now they're Uni graduates!! This one was visiting from the Gold Coast, such a gorgeous boy. @1000happyhomes nothing beats a homemade chicken & slaw baguette on a picnic rug in the middle of a paddock!! •   posieshoots @greyskydreaming it's looking so hip & alive now, isn't it?? I love how many of the cool bars & cafes have kept the industrial feel of their mechanic past. The Hamlet is fun, spit roast lamb rolls, food from Peru, wood fire pizza . . . very slowly working our way around the vans. It's 'street' food, alas, it's not cheap. Damn trendy premium. posieshoots Sluggish start to this Friday. Not sure if it is due to a late bed time as a bunch of noisey teenage girls took over the house, waking to rain during the night, or sleeping in a big empty bed as my husband is away interstate?? Taking it easy today: green smoothies, driving lessons & lots of baking. Greeting the weekend with open arms & colourful blooms. #florist #flowers #roses #berries #colour #freshproduce #schoolholidays 3w

  •   theoldfathen Such pretty flowers 3w
  •   posieshoots @theoldfathen breathing them in from a photo I took last week. @karyn_2315 I'm a housewife, no job, just a big stalker of local florists!! Ha, yes, driving lessons are really enjoyable - your teen is cleverly trapped into talking to you. She's going so well on the road, all that farm driving covered off gears, hill starts & speed, we are working on lines & corners this week. Plus my husband took the family Mercedes interstate for his Army course, so she's using the farm Landcruiser, all very familiar. @sarijanehomeaccents I'm going to inhale the roses, you know when you just need a little lift?? Wet & gloomy outside, wonderful for the garden, I need that smoothie, stat. @little_tienda indeedy. Half way through the school holidays & we hit our first hiccup last night . . . spilt nail polish remover. Good God girls!! Acetone stench is not a relaxant. @kickerskel I will fill my future homestead with such blooms. Thanks for the floral eye candy @moxomandwhitney!! 3w

  •   posieshoots @faeryfay it's fun isn't it?? The farm driving has certainly started her off for road driving with calm ease. Came home to thirteen year olds making pancakes - normally my girls wash up as they go - not with friends around, mix master bowls & frying pans everywhere. Eeep. 3w
