posemethod There is a big difference between keeping your bodyweight on the ball of your foot and simply staying on the ball of your foot. The first is a part of a spring mechanism and the second actually prevents that mechanism from functioning. When you keep your boyweight on the ball of your foot, your ankle is allowed to self adjust, the heel comes up or down as needed, the muscles, tendons and ligaments work as a unit, nothing gets overloaded. You might even feel your entire foot touching the ground while your bodyweight is still focused on your forefoot only. Quite the opposite happens when you stay on the ball of your foot. posemethod High knee exercise should be filed away, archived and forgotten. Touted as one of the exercises to improve running technique it actually contradicts what running is. Lifting knees when running interferes with forward movement, it's similar to heelstrike. And it aggravates your hips. When we see knees flying high in sprint - those knees are there due to high speed that the runner is moving at. Some runners of course do make an effort to bring those knees up, that explains their struggle to move forward faster. Try it yourself - run 100m lifting knees and then 100m not doing it. posemethod When training, exercising, or doing anything else, quality of what you do is always more important than quantity. 5 well performed reps will get you further than 15 poorly done reps. 100 meters ran with good technique will do more for your training than 1k with poor running form. posemethod When it comes to measuring angles and degrees in running, the only one that matters is the angle of falling (outlined in green). All others, as show in examples on this image, are completely irrelevant and some make no sense whatsoever.
The fact is, that even the angle of falling is only important when there is a need to calculate speed potential. Before we get to that it's best to first get the running technique straight and improve running form overall. posemethod Surprisingly many runners think that the foot must be brought up pretty high when running. Bolt's foot in this image is that high strictly due to forces that are already at play. He is moving at a very high speed and he is not exerting any efforts to raise his foot up that high. It happens on it's own. If he was to run slower - his feet would come up lower. When we run to warm up - the feet barely clear the ground. The correct pull taught in the Pose Method is not a long continuous effort, it is instead a short burst of minimal effort by the hamstring muscles. posemethod Here's a collage of famous runners - all in running pose from different angles.
Every runner without exception goes through what we call the running pose. Why does it matter more than anything else? It is where the movement forward happens, or any movement for that matter. Movement cannot happen without support. If you don't have support you simply cannot move in any way and in any direction. Support in running 'happens' when the foot is on the ground and the body is passing over it. Shorter time on support is better for speed and prevention of injuries. The shortest time on support is produced when the foot lands on the fore part of it and when the foot is then quickly pulled up to keep the cycle going.
Running happens from running pose to running pose. The less commotion there is in between - the better and faster you run any distance. Of course you can roll through the heel, and try to toe off, and push off.... but all that is a wasted effort that could be better used by focusing on strictly what allows forward movement - maintaining the running pose and quickly changing support.

The runners in the picture are not perfect - they all have/had an occasional imperfection, but much less of them than others.

posemethod According to an ancient Chinese saying, "You are as old as your joints". If your joints have full range of motion and move without pain, your movement has the quality of youth.
To attain this, your joints, muscles, and tendons need to be strong enough to absorb, load, and release energy back into movement.
Flexibility, by the meaning of the two words - 'flex' and 'ability' - is the ability to freely move the joints. The key to flexibility, as it relates to muscles, is their ability to relax, allowing your joints to move. In this respect, I am appealing not to muscles, but to joints. The muscles support and empower joint movement. This type of mobility work requires a different mind-set than traditional stretching. Gentle stretching with short holds can also relax the muscle involved, releasing tension, which in turn makes the muscle not longer, per se, but more responsive. By freeing up the movement potential of your joints, you will improve your functional mobility, allowing you to move through
