poeticwordvomit No zoom lens? No worries! During the @mydubai trip we pulled over for a skyline shot and we were met with a wonderful surprise - flamingos! I couldn't get a shot I was happy enough with on my phone but really wanted one, so had to turn some MacGyver skills on and improvise.

Binoculars + iPhone 6 + #holdyourbreathandshoot technique + 16 shots later = this.

poeticwordvomit No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.
Nelson Mandela - Long Walk to Freedom

Most of you may already be aware of the events that unfolded in Sydney today and whilst I generally wouldn't post anything political or religious or otherwise, I felt compelled after seeing the waves of support via the #illridewithyou campaign currently breaking the Internet on social media.

Unfortunately, racism is present all over the world and with the event that unfolded today, I myself was worried about my own family members who wear Islamic religious attire... and then an overwhelming surprise came with this campaign. Australians from all over the country and people from all over the world showing support for Muslims in their community by assuring them they are safe, that they will not be judged for the actions of an extremist minority and that if they are worried or scared and don't want to ride home alone, they're not alone.

No one should have to walk alone, in fear, and I wholeheartedly applaud fellow Australians for coming together to show their support in what has been a shocking, sad and chaotic day.

poeticwordvomit "Bel ezen, fini sa'weroo la wahdoo?" this is what I asked the mother of this adorable young child whilst they were posing for a photo at @AtTheTopBurjKhalifa. It's arabic and I basically said "excuse me, can I photograph him on his own?" Both the mother and father were happy for me to do so and after snapping a few shots, I showed them and the father asked me to note down his email to send them through, which I have done.

As I thanked them and walked away, I noticed the father get down low and try a #reflectagram too, albeit with his Android.

poeticwordvomit "One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams..." - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince.

During our 2nd visit to the desert, we visited the finest and most luxurious desert resort in the UAE, the amazing @almaha_resort. The Arabian Oryx and the Gazelles are the star attractions of the reserve; a timeless setting that gives visitors a glimpse into the Bedouin way of life.

We inspected a few of their gorgeous suites and went on to enjoy a 4WD, falcon and camel riding experience, however unfortunately I felt a little sick and had to skip an epic dinner. But, the incredibly kind management and staff organised a (freakin' awesome) suite for me to relax in for a few hours whilst the rest of the group enjoyed a mouth-watering feast. I'm not quite sure who missed out, them on experiencing the suite, or me with the amazing dinner they all raved about.

poeticwordvomit That "did you just take a photo of me?!" look, followed by a smile from me that says "yes I did, but please please please don't react!!" You've all seen this bridge in a previous post, but I really loved everything about it and figured you guys won't mind seeing it again with a fresh perspective.

poeticwordvomit It wouldn't be right if I didn't share at least one shot @BurjAlArab, a true icon of Dubai.

I've worked in the travel industry for 10 years now and have wanted to step inside this incredible piece of architecture since my career began. My dream finally came true on our final night of the trip. We were spoilt beyond words!!! Get this... we were taken up to the Royal Suite on level 25, where the kindest butlers served us drinks and canapés whilst we roamed around the huge space, literally wow'ing every 3 seconds! There's sooo much intricate detail throughout, and more gold than I've ever seen (besides the Gold Souk! ) I mean, even the hairdryers were plated with 24 carat gold. Like, WHAT?!! It was such a great evening and a lovely way to spend our last night in Dubai.

Needless to say, the opportunities to capture amazing architecture, geometrical forms and rad patterns and details in Dubai are endless.

poeticwordvomit Cayan Tower, more commonly known as Infinity Tower, is located at Dubai Marina.

I have been wanting to visit and shoot... well, by shoot I mean capture, this building since its completion and opening on 10th June (my birthday!) 2013.

As I walked towards this amazing piece of architecture, I noticed a lot of construction and road blocks in the area, but was determined that I was going to get close enough to take a good look at this 80 story skyscraper. Upon reaching the first blocked area, I took a step through the barriers, a young construction worker approached me and a conversation like this followed.

Young guy: Ma'am, you can't be here. Please walk around the barrier.
Me: Look. *serious face* I'm from Sydney, Australia, you know. It's really reallyyy far. And I flew 14 hours to get here. And this building was one of the many things I was excited to see. So give me a few minutes to take a look and take some photos. It's no big deal. I'll be a few minutes. Is that okay? I'm sure it's okay. Come on. Surely.
Young guy: *confused face* Yes, sure ma'am.
Me: ... . @mydubai #mydubai

poeticwordvomit Level 124 @atthetopBurjKhalifa + iPhone 6 + Cortex Cam App + #holdyourbreathandshoot = this.

I took a ridiculous amount of shots at various angles and from different sides during the amazing sunrise we experienced at "At the Top" at Burj Khalifa, but I really loved the impressive roads on this side.

I hope you all don't mind, but I have 5 or so more favs to share with you from the amazing @mydubai trip! #mydubai

poeticwordvomit If I was to share all the look up and architectural shots in my roll from the @mydubai trip, I'll be done by June and you'll all think I've moved to Dubai! This one is totally obviously imperfect, but still a #fourcornerprecisioncrop.

poeticwordvomit Our talented Frenchie, @maximecoquard (also known as our ballerina) was ever so graceful throughout the @MyDubai trip.

When @laurenepbath emailed me with the news that I'll be going to Dubai, the first thing I packed was this 3 metre piece of red material. I had been wanting to do a shoot with it for several months in Sydney, but it never worked out, thankfully, because it got put to good use during a magical sunrise in Dubai! #mydubai

poeticwordvomit One of the experiences on our epic Dubai trip included riding an Abra (traditional boat also known as an Arabian Gondola) on Dubai Creek to visit the Gold, Spice and Textile Souk.

I loved the narrow alleys in the Souk and enjoyed surprising one particular shopkeeper when I replied in Arabic about a price, unaware I had understood all they were discussing regarding what price to give me . This was taken whilst riding the Abra. The sky was always delicious at sunset and sunrise and never failed to disappoint.

poeticwordvomit I'm sorry but I couldn't resist posting another look up taken at @AtlantisThePalm. This was just too cool and I really loved it. And yes, I had to kinda lay on my back again to fit as much as possible in, #anythingforthegram styles.

poeticwordvomit Ski Dubai was so much fun... and super cold at -4°! Has anyone been before? It's a great activity for adults and kids alike and I would highly recommend it for everyone. I spent a couple of hours in there and then did some shopping, thanks to it's great location at Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shopping malls in the world.
