plannedparenthoodvotes The Helms Amendment turns 41 today, but we don't want to keep reminding its birthday anymore.

This amendment restricts the access to abortion not only in the United States, but also around the world, even in cases of rape and life-threatening pregnancies.

plannedparenthoodvotes The International Day for the #EliminationOfViolenceAgainstWomen was not randomly chosen.
Its story starts with a brutal act that took place in the #DominicanRepublic, with the Mirabal sisters -better known as "Las Mariposas" or "the butterflies"- as protagonists.
They were brutally assassinated on orders from dictator Rafael Trujillo and they became heroines and martyrs in the fights against his repressive regime. Las Mariposas are a symbol of resistance and democracy around the world, creating after their death the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence.

plannedparenthoodvotes #TBT: Lucy Parsons' radical activism challenged the sexist mentality that prevailed in America in the XIX-XX century, when it was common to believe that a woman's place was in the house.

By organizing housewives and domestic laborers into working unions, she became a pioneer advocate for women's rights. She also fought for the access to abortions, freedom from rape and birth control.

Parsons, who had African American, Native American, and Mexican ancestry, also worked hard for the rights of workers and minorities. She was was definitely a woman ahead of her time!

plannedparenthoodvotes A big THANK YOU to our supporters who went to the polls yesterday. Without your #vote, the results we had in #Connecticut and #RhodeIsland would not have been possible.
However, when we look around the nation, it is clear that we still have a lot of work to do. We won’t rest until politicians stop feeling entitled to restrict women’s access to reproductive health care. We won’t stop until #womensrights are recognized and respected and we want you to be there fighting along with us.
Our time is now!
