  •   philip_nguyen Thank you! @sincerengo 2mon
  •   jon_basco Did you use the teleconverter for this? 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen Yeah I did, not used to the lense lol. It's hard capturing fish since they move so fast @jon_basco 2mon
  •   jon_basco Dont put it at the closest focus distance. Try putting more distance so you can use the larger aperture and still get more depth of field. 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen I'll have to play around with it a little more during the weekend @jon_basco thanks for lending me the lense! 2mon
  •   hamed_darabi oooh so so nice shot! 3w
  •   philip_nguyen Thanks @hamed_darabi I love this photo as well! 3w
  •   hamed_darabi i dont see photo cool like this!!! thanks for sharing this amazing pic 3w

philip_nguyen Updated FTS 01/04/2014

Winry ️ Haro

Moved some Hammers around to balance it out a little, and I think I'm finally happy with the aquascape, and position of everything ️ One day I would like to add a Cleaner Shrimp or two, and finally finish it.

  •   hoyinn87 How many different color of hammer you got ? 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen Hahaha I have 8 different hammers in the tank @hoyinn87 2mon
  •   hoyinn87 Why dont you get torch and frogspawn?? 2mon
  •   pp90 Can't get over how awesome this tank is 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen I don't really know why lol... I heard torches are aggressive towards are euphyllia corals such as hammered and frogspawns, which is probably why I haven't gotten a torch. Especially since my tank is small, there's not much room to put a variety of different species inside, so that they would co-exist with one another peacefully @hoyinn87 Thanks Peter!!! @pp90 any updates of your tank? 2mon
  •   gbeast Very very nice. I'm a big fan of species tanks - this is really cool. 3w
  •   philip_nguyen Thank you @gbeast it's a lot easier to maintain a species only tank as well hahaha. Your Anemone tank is amazing. I never had much luck with them. Do you feed them on a regular basis? 3w

  •   williamportieles Dude your hammers dont close up when a clown or anything touches them? 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen Hahaha nope! They stay open during the day, but close at night. But the one they host stays open a little and acts like a pillow for the clowns lol @williamportieles 2mon
  •   aaronos4890 Looks great! What light are you using? 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen Thanks @aaronos4890 I'm using a Maxspect Razor 60w 16,000k LED unit. 2mon
  •   divecj5 Awesome @philip_nguyen After 9+ years of reefing and having kept all kinds of SPS, I've found the flow and variations of Euphyllia to be my favorite. Superb tank 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen Thank you Adam @divecj5 I couldn't agree more! While I do love SPS and the colour variations, nothing brings a tank alive like the motion of Euphyllias. Your tank is like a little Oasis 2mon
  •   divecj5 I hear ya @philip_nguyen . I love the polyp movement on some of the more "hairy" SPS and the rewarding feeling of growing them from 1/2-1" frags but you just can't beat the motion of mini-colony sized softies. Thanks for the compliment Can't wait to follow along and see how your slice of the reef grows. 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen SPS seem to be rarities at the LFS here, probably due to the restrictions on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. But I'd like to one day try out SPS, even if it's on a smaller scale with a single frag and trying to make a colony out of it. The tank is doing great now, considering all its been through. And a constant fight with Cyano. Thanks for following, and I'll be sure to keep you updated on the progress from time to time, and I'll make sure to keep and eye out on your beautiful reef as well @divecj5 2mon

  •   philip_nguyen It's ok, it happens. Shame since I had them for a year and they grew considerably. A small ups to power a powerhead would be enough or even a battery operated airpump. @williamportieles 2mon
  •   williamportieles Full spectrum lighting? 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen I don't think so @williamportieles 2mon
  •   williamportieles Do u have an eshops overflow box on your tank? 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen I have a Mame Overflow @williamportieles really silent with the silencer cap and has an auto-syphon if the power goes out. 2mon
  •   williamportieles How does the whole overflow box thing work? Does that have a sump? Im a noob in that whole area 2mon
  •   philip_nguyen A pump pushes water back up into the main tank, and when the water level raises high enough, it flows back down into the intake. There's a centuri hose connecting the return to the inflow side, by which a syphon is created when the water is push back through the return, in case of a power outage it will auto restart the syphon for you. @williamportieles and yes there is sunp for the return pump. 2mon
  •   williamportieles Hmmm got it.. Yea I need to see something like this in person lol 2mon

philip_nguyen FTS. Hammer Heaven new aquascape.
Removed a rock and broke another up to fit the tank more proportionally.

  •   philip_nguyen I think for small tanks it's ok, but you'll have to be diligent with water changes, if you were going to remove the filter which runs filter floss, chemi-pure etc... Your live rock would be the main source of filtration. A small hang on back filter might be ok, if you haven't thought about that. I've seen a lot of people just doing live rock filtration, with just a powerhead and their tanks look great. But at the end of the day it also depends on what corals you wanted to keep. LPS corals do great in high nutrient water, but opposite for SPS. @williamportieles 3w
  •   williamportieles Ive been having an extencise convo on reefcentral. If you wanna check it out ill send u the link. But im most prob gonna take out the filter. And start doing 2 gal water changes. Once i chop of the top glass just a powerhead and filter tank should look great. Maybe a tiny protein skimmer too! 3w
  •   williamportieles #post23486481" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=23486481#post23486481 3w
  •   philip_nguyen A lot of good points highlighted in that thread. A skimmer would be a good option and better than an enclosed filter loop. Atleast that way, you are removing nutrients, rather than re-circulating it back into the water column. And too bad there's no nice way of hiding the heater in those tanks. Unless you get a small 50w Eheim jager heater, which would be a lot smaller than what you have currently. Your tanks growing out nicely! @williamportieles 3w
  •   williamportieles Thanks bud i believe im going to go with that. Since ill be taking off the top, im going to put the heater on the same wall that my power head will be on (leftside) will give a better look imo ! 3w
  •   williamportieles Dude i just noticed some tiny clear starfish looking things on my front glass, and a microscopic baby looking snail lol, what in the world are those? O.o 3w
  •   philip_nguyen I think your probably thinking about Hydroid, I had one or two in my tank early on, but they vanished. I don't think they are bad. And the baby snails might be stomatella snails? Or they could be some offspring from one of your other snails if you have any in the tank lol @williamportieles 3w
  •   williamportieles Ha nice!yea i read up on the hydroid..nothing bad to be concerned of lol 3w
