petalplum Some of the natural dye colours this week. Love-love the peachy orange golden tones I made today. Can't wait to wind these into balls and see them in piles in baskets.
Hoping next week is the week to start my indigo vat so I can make blue-blue-blue....... In the meantime pretty happy with rest of the rainbow.

These yarns will find themselves at my weaving workshop this Saturday, on my website (soon!), on my weaving loom, on my crochet hook.
and hopefully not in my baby's mouth - he's chewing everything at the moment!!

Also - thanks for the skateboard weaving needle love. There's going to be a rainbow of needles being hand crafted next week for sure!

  •   birdneststudio Those are amazing! The range of color - wow! 11h
  •   petalplum @peregrinationz I really really need a swift - I do it all by hand, with chair legs...(the kids only help sporadically). It's so tedious and time consuming ..... I have to find instructions and get Sam to make me one. @handmakersfactory made one recently 3h
  •   handmakersfactory I used an Instructables tutorial to make mine @petalplum @peregrinationz. LOVE your skateboard needle! 3h
  •   petalplum @peregrinationz and yes, great having dye conversations with other dye/fabric lovers... I was so happy with yesterday's experiments. Problem is...need to buy more wool / fabric again!!!! 3h
  •   petalplum @handmakersfactory thanks. I'm off to find it - I remember you told me, but I forgot where you said... Sam says he'll make me one - have you any tips for making it, or did you follow instructions exactly? Thanks for the needle love - pretty special. xx (@peregrinationz ) 3h
  •   handmakersfactory @petalplum mine turned out a bit wobbly. Something to make it more stable as it turns would be great. Someone suggested a flat rotating bearing (used in cars) but they were very expensive. 3h
  •   petalplum @handmakersfactory would you mind emailing me the link....I just looked and it says can't find it...?? Ellieabeck@hotmail.com xxx 3h
  •   handmakersfactory Sure 3h

Also....a wooden skateboard weaving needle that @deadwoodcreative finally had time to make for me. I love it so. We'll have them on our website available for pre-orders....would you be interested in one?

petalplum You've probably already guessed that I'm a pretty low maintenance woman - lately I've barely had time to brush my hair. I don't even own any lipstick; sometimes a slick of mascara makes its way to my lashes.
So I was pretty pleased when I stumbled upon @nourish.and.nurture and found their pretty Perfect Pout red lip balm. So easy to apply while running out the door, or carry in my handbag. And the solid perfume pot with deep earthy fragrances reminds me of my mum - ah sandalwood and myrrh.
I love supporting hand made natural beauty products - organic, no animal testing, no petrochemicals... And when I asked, Tabitha Emma sent along some of her pretty little floral gatherings.

{this is not a paid or sponsored post - I just love sharing things like this with you. So we can all actively seek out and support small ethical businesses and not have to even consider visiting the department stores!}.

  •   willowynn_textile_art I love this Ellie! I'm going to look these up. Best to use only products you could eat I say :) 2d
  •   kriketbroadhurst Lovely composition 2d
  •   loddelina Looks yummy, I went straight to her Etsy shop to order some but shipping to Europe costs 3x the product price ... 2d
  •   petalplum @loddelina oh that's a pity. Yes postage can be quite crazy isn't it. Maybe just ask her to confirm - perhaps it accidentally charged wrong...that happens pretty easily. xx 2d
  •   loddelina Or I'll just order lots of balm to make the cost worth it :-) 2d
  •   petalplum Hehe @loddelina share the balm love with all your neighbours and friends! 2d
  •   koolnecks_accessories Gorgeous shot!! 20h

petalplum This cutie pie - it doesn't matter what else is happening or what I may be feeling, one smile from this little one and everything's all ok. And when he giggles, I can't help but laugh with him.

Thanks for your suggestions on toys for him. Sam is going to make some wooden play blocks. And River loves these little organic teething rattles from @babeeandme -- he woke from his nap today and started shaking and playing with it.

petalplum Monday ~ what I want to do vs what I need to do vs what baby will let me do....
A found a couple of zippered purses that I made (using beautiful screen printed fabrics) that perhaps you'd like to purchase. And working on getting the final @deadwoodcreative Necklaces online (they're one offs...some beautiful pieces...perfect for Mother's Day-ing).
Wondering the idea of listing them on IG instead of website ~~ thoughts?

You can see some on @deadwoodcreative ig and I can DM anything that you're particularly interested in. Check out the website and see what you like (direct link is in my profile). Thanks x 3d

  •   petalplum I think that's the best way isn't it @flutterbymama xx 3d
  •   petalplum @mini_hahaha thank you - they were playing happily on my table today! x 3d

petalplum I finally tidied my studio table and now there's space to play with yarn and fabric, and sit with cups of tea and ponder things and write letters and enjoy having space that's not the kitchen bench....

Think we need some next stage toys for baby, to keep him longer entertained (so I can sip tea in the sunshine longer!). What's your favourite 6-12month baby game, activity, toy ~ with a natural and beautiful aesthetic that will grow with him.
4d
  •   runfreekids My bub is just 6 months and she is loving instrument type toys, especially maracas! 4d
  •   petalplum @runfreekids oh yeah! Great idea, thanks.... I'm sure I have some packed away...was thinking too old for him, but he loves music and sound and singing - and I think the big kids will love playing with him with maracas too. 4d
  •   littleivyblog My 9 month old also loves musical instruments (including just some rice in a plastic bottle), Tupperware and balls, balls and more balls. 4d
  •   little_loom Where are those scissors from @petalplum ? 4d
  •   wovenspirit I just made Griffyn some little birdies (cheep cheep!), and I remember that Ru loved non-toys i.e. Items from the kitchen drawer and bits and pieces from around the house ️ He also loved rattles and any scrunchy crunchy different textured fabric - and chewing on wood toys - we were gifted plastic activity sit in and lay down type things for Anaru, but he never bothered with them, so I'm not getting any of them for Griffyn either - haha! 4d
  •   petalplum @little_loom these came in a little kit of my daughters, but I think you can get similar from Asian shops....maybe bonsai pruning?? If I see any around I'll let you know xx 4d
  •   little_loom @petalplum that would be amazing thanks x 4d
  •   5_times_blessed Some little ones mouth things more than others. My number 5, Daisy, didn't do it as much and at one I no longer had to close doors where lego was. The others varied in this way a lot too. For toys, a silk dyed scarf tied at one end to a wooden teething ring is great, and they can use the scarf later on to do 'parachute' activities with mummy or siblings, and wrap their 'baby' in, and as an older child tie a few together to make indoor tents. x 3d

petalplum I've been enjoying my second daily cup of coffee in this sweet little beaker, and pink threads with pins are gathering in the little blue dish. Tomorrow I shall bake a cake and cut a delicious slice to lay upon that there white embossed plate. And that will be a most lovely thing indeed - cake upon handcrafted flowers.
Thank you Ness @marleyandlockyer for your gift of these beautiful pieces. •
Also, have you entered my giveaway - a small thanks to this community. Check a few posts back #petalplumyarngiveaway

petalplum You know those days where you get to mid afternoon and feel tired in the most happiest contented of ways....today was one of those days.
Spent most all of the day sorting and tidying and rearranging to make our 'making room' a space we can spend time in and be inspired to be in. It's been big piles of junk basically since Baby was born. So good to work with my man and see results and know we're working towards good things.
And then the most lovely afternoon walk with My Loves.
A full day - the sort where you're just being in the now, where there's a clarity and no tussle to drag you from the moment. I long for days to always be this easy....

  •   ofheartandhome Gorgeous colours Ellie xx 5d
  •   hellolaurajane So beautiful!!! 5d
  •   onabee What did you use for the green yarn?? 5d
  •   petalplum @onabee ooh the green was a wonderful lucky accident...except I seem to be good at making green. This one was purple cabbage (the yarn was blue) then into onion skins. Isn't it beautiful. The golden rod I just dyed with was at the end of its flowering and was much more greenish than the yellow dye with newly opened flowers. 5d

petalplum "What you allow is what will continue." ~ Unknown

I have chosen this tender image as my favourite for #amonthofkindness because it sings to me how kindness grows in us. Children are naturally kind, but they follow and learn from the actions of their parents. The innate kindness of a parent, those small daily acts, show a child and allow a child to continue in what feels naturally human- to simply be kind.
I love Emily's @emandthewildthings Gallery- please go and visit her delightful parenting moments and beautiful scenery. She has a great way with words and images, with an honesty that connects us all. Her caption for this image said - "what I hold most beautiful would have to be invisible (an action, a feeling)."
I will be sending a little something to Emily, as a way of saying thank you for inspiring me with her gentle beautiful kindness.

Make sure you jump over to Bec @ofheartandhome to see who she has chosen as her winner from this month, who she'll be sending a little something to. Yah - two winners. Beautiful kindness flows on and on.....

petalplum "The best portion of a good man's life. His little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love" ~ William Worthsworth
When Bec @ofheartandhome asked me to be the guest judge for #amonthofkindness I thought it would be lovely to look through such a sweet gallery of images and choose my favourite. But as I looked and read, I realised that Kindness was shining out more than the pretty pictures. It really made me think about the virtue and validity of pure simple kindness in our society today. Kindness is about a generosity of soul, a giving of thought and feeling with no want of more than the giving - no desire other than to give something to someone else. To offer kindness, to extend kindness.
I kept thinking about kindness to self; but really self-kindness grows from the giving of kindness to someone else. A gift that is often, unexpectedly, returned with a smile.
These images and the words spoke to me about the small acts of kindness we give each day to brighten someone else's outlook.
Thank you Bec @ofheartandhome for this gathering of Kindness #amonthofkindness
I do hope you'll continue to share your moments of kindness this month; please share the story behind the image so we can all be inspired by 'Daily acts of Kindness'. These 4 are my 'runner up' choices - please go to each individual image to read their stories, tap photos to see names.

petalplum Oh April, you rushed by much much too quickly I barely had time to breathe you in...... I do try and enjoy my #10minutesofquietly but I realised this week that mostly it was a rushed bare few minutes or one deep breathe-in-&-out, which isn't really enough.
Sitting down with my daily cup and savouring the taste, aroma, warmth, moment....how to make this happen amongst life I'm not sure, but each day I will continue to try.

petalplum I am trying to overcome these feelings that slip in when it starts raining ~ living in a leaky shack, in makeshift conditions is much harder when the rain settles in for a stay ....showering outside, running through puddles to get from bedroom to kitchen, hoping everything doesn't go mouldy.....
|
Instead being grateful for clean sheets on our bed, hot water in our shower, delicious food cooked by my man, a table to gather around with my loved ones..... Will repeat this mantra until I can live it fully and gracefully 'I am grateful for all that I DO have'.
|
Today is the last day of April, I will be sharing my favourites from #amonthofkindness tomorrow morning. Thank you @ofheartandhome for inviting me to be the guest judge for this beautiful heartful #
Please add any images and your thoughts/words for #amonthofkindness
