pattemouche I'm staying at Shukubo Kamagaiji. A shukubo is different from a hotel or a ryokan. It's a lodge at a Buddhist temple. Arigatou gozaimasu @jeancrochet for suggesting I visit Koyasan, it's amazing! 55s

pattemouche But then you have to take the cable car up the rest of the way. Koyasan is 837 meters above sea level. 9min

pattemouche On the train to Koyasan...lots of men catching up on their manga. In Kyoto I visited the International Manga Museum. It's more like a manga library. You can read them there, but you can't check them out. 2h

pattemouche So instead of exploring Osaka, I visited a different kind of castle yesterday... Hogwarts!! Didn't know they have a Universal Studios in Osaka. Not that I would want to go, since I've been to the real one in LA countless times. But when I checked into my hotel night before last, there was a big sign in the lobby with a picture of Harry on it, they have the Wizarding World of Harry Potter here! So I went, and I'm so glad I did cause it was amazing! And it was cool to see all the characters speaking Japanese. And I loved the rest of the park too. There's this ride called Space Fantasy that obliterates Disney's Space Mountain! :) 12h

pattemouche I arrived in Osaka last night. Here's the view of the river from my hotel room window. My intention was to explore the city today before going to Nara tomorrow on my way to Koyasan. However... 17h

pattemouche This is Shiromaru Hime, the castle mascot. She's everywhere. Notice her lovely castle shaped hat. Apparently she's a superb vocalist and loves to drink tea. Here she's telling you to get water so you don't get dehydrated going up to the castle, I think? 1d

pattemouche Left Kyoto yesterday. Took the train to Himeji to see Himeji Castle. It dates back to 1333. Takes a couple hours to go through the castle and you have to take off your shoes, of course! 1d

pattemouche This is the Ponto-chō district in Kyoto. It's by the river and there are little canals and paper lanterns everywhere. It's beautiful by day and magical by night. But I'm not in Kyoto anymore! 1d

pattemouche And in case you thought I was exaggerating when I said my hotel was on a mountain outside the city, here I'm looking down at Kyoto from my hotel. 2d

pattemouche Never did make it up to the ancient Buddhist temple further up the mountain from the hotel. After 45 minutes, I turned back so I wouldn't miss the shuttle down to the city. But I did find this cool place, whatever it was! 2d

pattemouche Should I?! In the city now, and you know what they say, when in Kyoto...Nah! Decided to go see a real geisha show instead. And apparently I'm just in time cause it ends this week and only happens a few times a year. Sorry, no pics allowed. You'll just have to take my word for it. 3d

pattemouche Last night in the hotel library I met Tots, a Texan Japanese American who is here as an interpreter for his two New York filmmaker friends making a doc about one of the oldest sects of Buddhism and the ancient temple up the mountain from the hotel. I decided to hike up the road to the temple before the shuttle to the city arrived. I think the sign meant no pedestrians on this road. But since I don't read Japanese... 3d

pattemouche Got lost in Tokyo yesterday unsuccessfully trying to find a museum that wasn't even on Maps, Yui, a Japanese Spanish-speaking university student put me on the right path to find my hotel, hopped on a bullet train to Kyoto, discovered that the hotel I booked isn't actually in the city part of Kyoto, but up on a remote mountain named Mt. Hiei, I just put my head down on the pillow for a minute when I got in last night and I was out...it was a long day, but a great one! #wingingitonmyowninjapanpattystyle 3d

pattemouche Konichiwa Nippon, yoroshiku onegaishimasu! As beautiful as Chinzanso Garden is by day, wish you could've seen it last night engulfed in a sea of fireflies with tiny fruit bats flittering overhead. #japan #tokyo #bunkyo #hotelchinzanso #chinzansogarden 4d
