panpenyo Watching these sweet little babies caramelising away like that in this bubbly jacuzzi of butter and white wine, and being hit by the sweet aroma of the concoction... I was thinking, oh dear... Someone's about to come home to a serious taste explosion tonight! And I could not wait to watch him take his first bite!! (A small childish part of me also wanted to join those friendly looking shallots in their wine/butter jacuzzi party 😛) 1w

panpenyo Oh deeply wounded #Warsaw... I am so sorry our Allies could not come to your aid... The depths of your feelings of betrayal, who could fathom? Your almost unspeakable stories trouble me deeply. How many ghosts walk through the streets of your city waiting for justice they will never receive? I wish for you a gifted story teller, an artist, or a composer, a poet or writer or film maker, for the world to know your story and for you to find healing and restoration to the depths of your soul, to all your communities, to your people young and old. #Warszawa, you dear, dear, dear place. 3w

  •   panpenyo Going on the same old train commute I've been doing repetitively for the past 77 weeks, I encountered that thrilling moment of joy today after making a small discovery that could make the rest of commutes to come all the more bearable! It reminded me that even in the most apparently mundane and repetitive situations, there can be hiding the most charming and useful of golden nuggets.
Like that evening, the week after the Christmas holidays when I discovered that the rail services had installed free wifi on board all main line trains across the south western network!! Or... The miraculous day the long awaited freight rail underpass track opened at Reading and all the trains from Oxford started arriving smoothly, and totally uncharacteristically ON TIME. And then proceeded to do so from then on, week after week without fail! Unbelievable but true (so far)! My discovery today was a nice little restaurant near Exeter St David's, hiding all this time behind darkened windows across a big car park and a road junction. It had really comfy chairs, a warm and cared for environment, and friendly, courteous Devonian staff :) I discovered that I can get a scrumptiously moreish meal (big enough for a small Chinese girl) for £5.50! I discovered that 45 minutes is just enough time to order, be seated and served, to dine and pay and arrive casually back on the time to the station to catch my last connection.

My love for rail travel has a lot to do with the chance encounters that rail journeys are so promisingly full of... Although mine is a commute (and can sometimes feels like a prison sentence), nonetheless it still gives me two potential railway adventures a week, on board 6 trains!
Hey: I totally salute you if you read all the way to the end of my silly, excited tale of train-travel fanaticism...! Thanks for reading, hear comes my last stop! 🚂 3w
