ozlemavcioglu For me no Venice visit is complete without visiting Ponte dei Sospiri, The Bridge of Sighs which connects the New Prison (Prigioni Nuove) to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace.
The view from the Bridge was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge name, given by Lord Byron in the 19th century, comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells.

ozlemavcioglu Today we saw Gondola producers ...Gondolas are handmade using 8 different types of wood (fir, oak, cherry, walnut, elm, mahogany, larch and lime) and are composed of 280 pieces. The oars are made of beech wood. The port side of the gondola is made longer than the starboard side. This asymmetry causes the gondola to resist the tendency to turn towards the left at the forward stroke.. 2w

ozlemavcioglu 'There before him once more lay the landing place beyond description, the dazzling overall vision of fantastic buildings with which the Serenissima was wont to meet the incoming sailors stunned gaze. This was Venice, an alluring and allusive beauty, a fabled city and a snare for strangers.....' Thomas Mann from 'DEATH IN VENICE 2w

ozlemavcioglu Paralleling the Architecture Biennale, nine columns—more than seven metres high and covered with a golden mosaic—stand in front of the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, the installation The Sky Over Nine Columns by Robert Fleck.. Yesterday at the sunset the columns were shining for a short while, I was lucky to capture this moment.. 2w
