os83 Chickadee bringing food from the valley to the mountain nest, part 4 of 4. Please visit my @sirsmollie account for the first three photos in the series. While @reebar and I were at Indian Fort Mountain near Berea, Kentucky, we had the good fortune to witness this parent make several trips to and from the nest inside a gnarled tree at the overlook. He (hard to tell male from female chickadees, but I think it was a male based on behavior) would swoop all the way down into the valley below to collect grubs and return, cautiously and methodically surveying the scene before delivering the food. It's amazing what parents do for their children. You can take a cynical viewpoint on this, and as someone with a PhD in Biology, I'm aware of the arguments. But I believe there's a bit more to love and altruism than genes, oxytocin (mesotocin in birds) or the expectation of reciprocity. 11h

os83 Liberty Hall in Frankfort, Kentucky. This beautiful structure dating to around 1800 is located on Wilkinson Street, named for Revolutionary War General James Wilkinson. He owned much of the land that is now downtown Frankfort and was involved in many important episodes in early Kentucky and U.S. history, but much of his activity turned out to be part of a treasonous conspiracy with Spain. 1d

os83 Ghosts of words unsaid, haunting days we could have been, caught in loops inside my head. To speak them now might fill a forest with waves that break in silence. 2d

os83 Met this goof along Milner Road, which connects Steele Road and US62 in Woodford County. Milner used to have its own post office and train station, but the former closed 80 years ago and the tracks are now part of the Bluegrass Railroad Museum (my source for the history was kyatlas.com, a really fun resource if you're a nerd about exploring our state). 4d

os83 Steele Road in Woodford County is one of the prettiest drives through horse farm country. Woodford is one of three Kentucky counties with more than 10,000 horses. Can you name the other two? 6d

os83 I don't normally post food pictures to this account but here's something I'm particularly excited about.  @wholefoodslex contacted me and @reebar about participating in their WFM Foodie program, and gave us some great new ingredients to try.  We used them as inspiration for a new recipe we devised for a caprese salad pasta that turned out pretty darn amazing.  The key ingredients were: Explore Asian's Organic (and gluten free!) Edamame and Mung Bean Fettucine, Castillo de Canena's XXI Century Smoked Arbequino Olive Oil, and Mutti Cherry Tomatoes. We also incorporated fresh mozzarella, basil, reduced balsamic vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper.  Hope you like our creation!  Please check out @wholefoodslex and my food account @smollie_eats for more about this.  Special thanks as well to @lindsaybruner for being so awesome to work with.  Have a great evening! #sponsored #wfmfoodie 1w

os83 Possibly the most frequent subject for my photos is this Japanese maple at my dad's house. I photograph it almost every time I visit him. 1w

os83 I'm very excited to announce that I've created a website, and have posted my first limited edition (/15) photo print for sale. Please visit oliverstarks.com, and oliverstarks.com/store to see the print. Thank you all again for your support. Quite honestly, Instagram is the only reason I have the confidence to finally do this. The shot above is not for sale (yet?). It's a beautiful forest in miniature I found growing on a large rock at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary. Have an awesome day. 2w
