oracleteamusa It was Sept. 12, 2013, and many thought we were two-thirds of the way through the 34th #AmericasCup. Emirates Team New Zealand continued to fend off #OracleTeamUSA, winning races six and seven. Wise were the comments from Team New Zealand’s Dean Barker that day: “We’re under no illusion, there’s still a very hard road ahead.” 1mon

oracleteamusa With the second Sydney training camp complete, #oracleteamusa is planning its next training session. The focus: Foiling. On our AC-72 that won the 34th #americascup ‘L’ shaped dagger-boards and ‘T’ shaped rudders create lift allowing the hulls to “fly” above the water, exceeding 40 knots (45 mph) while foiling. 5mon

oracleteamusa The #OracleTeamUSA training in Sydney for the 35th #AmericasCup continues. Sailing team manager Tom Slingsby talks about what the team is achieving: “We hadn’t seen each other or sailed together since the last race of the America’s Cup, so it’s great to get back together as a crew. While we’re here we’re going to be trialling new sailors, testing new techniques and importantly it also gets us all in the same place talking about ideas on how we go forward and how we’re going to defend the Cup.” 7mon

oracleteamusa Skipper @JSpithill will return to #OracleTeamUSA as the team re-builds with a focus on winning its third consecutive #AmericasCup.

The youngest skipper to ever lead a team to victory in the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport, Spithill says the lure of working with team principal #LarryEllison and CEO #RussellCoutts again was too strong to ignore. “There were some very good offers out there, but at the end of the day, Russell and Larry, I wouldn’t be here without them…” Spithill said.

Spithill has made the America’s Cup his life’s work, beginning as a 20-year old #skipper of the Young Australia team in the 1999/2000 Louis Vuitton Cup. He’s raced in every event since then, making steady progress towards the victory in 2010, when he became the youngest skipper to win the trophy.
