nouranaimi I have been craving this little indulgence for a while and just decided to bake it at home and it tastes divine... Ain't I awesome .. I have finished reading #senseandsensibility by #janeausten and found many important topics for discussion in it. I am not sure whether my next read would be re-reading Pride and Prejudice since I have finished a Jane Austen or War and Peace which I was waiting for the vacation to start... I have found some similarities between Elinor Dashwood's personality and mine. My pen has passed under some important passages and sentences in the book, and the rich introductions it has started and ended with which I here share a couple with you: "Perception of external objects become a wholly aesthetic indulgence","'It is not only knowledge that detaches man from feeling; it is sensibility itself: a sensibility that is no longer controlled by the movements of nature, but by all the habits, all the demands of social life.' In particular those women who nourished themselves on literature (particularly novels) were prone to nervous disorders: 'it detaches the soul from all that is immediate and natural in feeling and leads it into an imaginary world of sentiments violent in proportion to their unreality, and less controlled by the gentle laws of nature., One contemporary cure for nervous disorders was to expose the sufferer to landscape so that the tendency to subjectivity might be somewhat corrected by a sense of those 'gentle laws': this is what Elinor tried with Marriane". ... I highly recommend this book for those whole truly like to reflect and comprehend. 2w
  •   nouranaimi @part_the_clouds Good evening Dr. Ali, very true indeed, by reading your words one can feel all the positive energy nature and its laws bestows on us, many thanks 2w
  •   nouranaimi @reemabdelrahim I recommend this precise version of Penguin Classic but be patient with it and read the introductions it has to get the best of it, for these introductions with their analysis will open your eyes to many concepts the novel had it betweenness its lines 2w
  •   i_am_abeliever @nouranaimi very very good choice of quotes .. I haven't read novels nor poems in very long time.. I always thought they detach you from real world.. And then came this quote..thank you 2w
  •   nouranaimi @i_am_abeliever I am very glad you liked them Dr. Faten sometimes I get that much immersed in the text that I am literally detached from the real world and I look around my self and wonder how I have lost my whereabouts in what I am reading! 2w
  •   i_am_abeliever @nouranaimi ️me tooit is a very good idea to stop reading for a while and look around to stay attached to the real world.. Better to take a break , do something else and go back to reading again..very honored to get connect with you. 2w

nouranaimi "I cannot imagine myself feeling at home in a place that is indifferent to what has become my true home, a land with no borders and few restrictions, which I have taken to calling "the Republic of Imagination". I think of it as Nabakov's "somehow, somewhere" or Alice's backyard, a world that runs parallel to the real one, whose occupants need no passport or documentation. The only requirements for entry are an open mind, a restless desire to know and an indefinable urge to escape the mundane." #therepublicofimagination #azarnafisi 3mon

nouranaimi I have finished reading Jane Eyre last week, and words fail me to describe the pleasure I had and found in reading it. It took me several days to reflect and comprehend, relate and digest .. how much I found of me in Jane, how many pages I have dog-eared to retreat into later, and reread I certainly will! My plans were to start War and Peace after Jane Eyre, yet while waiting to receive my copy of Azar Nafisi's newest book in two days, I am rereading a book I have read several years ago; a suggestion from a dear Brazilian friend: #bytheriverpiedraisatdownandwept #paulocoelho
Note to memory: -By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept is linked to Maria and Karachi
-Jane Eyre is linked to Schlosshotel Kronberg

nouranaimi Retreating into Paulo Coelho's "Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it's all written there. "Maktub" " . . . "Every day was there to be lived or to mark one's departure from this world. Everything depended on one word:"Maktub"". . .  5mon
  •   part_the_clouds Good Day. Is it really every thing depends on Maktoub? Or it is just a word of culture. I believe in some thing: there are roads given to you. You choose your own road or roads until you find your self ... your own road. If you got lost, then destiny might or might not interfere... sort of that we make our own destiny 5mon
  •   nouranaimi @part_the_clouds Good day Dr, the word Maktoub in the context was focusing on how all the universe is interconnected, and as we live our own lives and roads based on all the choices we make, the destiny 'maktoub' plays a role by connecting us to other people's stories and lives where we play a role in their lives. I believe that one is both as we say in Arabic 'musayar' and 'mukhayar', as you said we have roads and we choose ours, and by that we make our destiny based on the choices we have made, where Allah has given us all the possibilities, yet there are other things which are our 'maktoub' destiny. I think the road we take to reach our maktoub destiny is the road where we make all our choice and create our destiny. And there is the destiny that comes to you and you choose whether to take it or no. In such cases many false beliefs are revealed, for those who curse destiny for having miserable lives or others who think destiny wants them to be defeated and failures, I think this the fraud where they find it a hanger to hang their complaints on. Allah is the Just where He has given us all the roads and options; where I believe in what He has written for us and in the choices we make. 5mon

nouranaimi "Bessie asked if I would have a book: the word book acted as a transient stimulus, and I begged her to fetch Gulliver's Travels . . . This book I had again and again perused with delight; I considered it a narrative of facts, and discovered in it a vein of interest deeper than what I found in fairy tales: for as to the elves, having sought them in vain among foxglove leaves and bells, under mushrooms and beneath the ground-ivy mantling old wall-nooks, I had at length made up my mind to the sad truth that they were all gone out of England to some savage country . . . I doubted not that I might one day, by taking a long voyage, see with my own eyes the little fields, houses, and trees, the diminutive people, the tiny cows, sheep, and birds of one realm; and the corn-fields forest-high, the mighty mastiffs, the monster cats, the tower-like men and women, of the other." #janeeyre #charlottebronte .. Who of us doubted not that they were all true, and did live somewhere in the world! 5mon
