I stood over the river, thinking. The trees right here are not yet sprouting, but it feels good this spring. 2d

nolan_daris_brown Inspiring to have met and heard Winona LaDuke speak at the 40th #NWIYC this last week, hosted by the Sho-Ban Tribes. My student organization at #IdahoState University, Native Americans United sponsored her to be at the conference.

I picked up Winona from the airport and said hello and introduced myself in one of my native languages, Anishinaabemowin.

We talked about the history of Shoshonean peoples, the cultures, the Uto-Aztecan languages, the Numic language family, our band structures, the establishment of Fort Hall, the establishment of the City of Pocatello, the land cessions, the Pocatello Airport on rez land, land fractionation, cattle ranching, potato agriculture, the Simplot Don Plant, and the FMC superfund site leftover from 60 years of elemental phosphorous mining and processing. Told the story of my direct ancestor, Chief Egan who 7 generations ago fought as war chief and died in the Bannock War. Talked about the Malheur Rez, Sheepeater War, Lemhi Rez, and our Shoshone and Bannock treaties. She found it all very interesting and interviewed me for her radio show, Niijii Radio! •   mewnie @nolan_daris_brown I need to make some frybread! 1w
  •   dvosstorrel Haha 5d
  •   nolan_daris_brown @mewnie Have you tried before? The recipe is just flour (I tried organic whole wheat flour) baking powder, lil salt and a lil sugar. Mix with slightly warm water. Cover and let rise for a hour or two. Heat your grease on the stovetop so it's hot but not too hot. Use a rolling pin and roll out some dough. Fry the bread and walla- #yuhudegumahaniipeha Grease bread!! 3d
  •   nolan_daris_brown This bread was mass produced by by my tribes' Hotel banquet chefs. Didn't turn out very well and you had to really chew to eat it. 3d
