nmemagazine New on NME.com today: read our 2013 career retrospective cover interview with Paul McCartney in full, following the news that the former Beatle has announced a new UK tour for 2015.

In it, Macca talks frankly about Kanye West - who he's now collaborating with - as well as how hard he finds it writing songs, forgetting some of his more obscure numbers (he's pictured here with Mary Hopkin, who he wrote for in 1969), and what the Beatles might sound like if they were starting out now. Here's a quick sample -

NME: You're asked about John and George's deaths on a daily basis; it's a subject that's equally morbid and sad. Does it get you down?
Paul McCartney: It's not a bad thing. In a way it's a good thing, because it keeps them present. John is as much of a presence for me now for me as he was when he was alive and we weren’t living in each other's pockets. So that's a good thing. The terrible thing, obviously, is when you talk about his killing in New York. That's shocking and that's saddening. But you don't normally concentrate on that. You get over that in one sentence, and you go on to say, 'Let me tell you man, what a nutter! He was crazy...'. You start finding it kind of joyous. And in that respect, it's quite nice to be reminded of him.

NME: What would you say to him if he walked in today?
PM: Let's write a song, man! [Claps hands] Get your geet out! Come on!

NME: And what would The Beatles sound like if they were aged 20 in 2013?
PM: Oh, that's interesting... .

  •   cordeliabarnes WHY WASNT I THERE @helenasilewicz 4w
  •   jakemurrellmustdie @c00pasaurus His atmosphere is irrelevant when his art is so terribly unexciting. No passion, only games. Like I said. Backing tracks and MacBooks don't count. But thanks for your opinion, kiddo. 4w

  •   ruaidhripadraig Hahahaha @c00pasaurus is the only one here with any sense whatsoever 4w
  •   c00pasaurus @ruaidhripadraig thanks bro 4w
  •   geeums @jakemurrellmustdie listen to his lyrics. What he is saying is so relevant and important right now. Classism, racism, corruption and greed. Production is much more than a MacBook and it's a pain in the ass when people act like it's the easiest thing in the world. Don't just slam over people for no reason. All you will get is hate. 4w
  •   jakemurrellmustdie And all I'm saying is that live music used to be an art, and that artists used to be humble. The world doesn't stop because this egotistical jackass decides to rap along to a backing track with some choreography. Everyone is entitled to listen to what they like, and if West's music is inspiring to you, then go for it. But I find that he and his venture into the arena of life performance is offensive "to the real artists out there", as Kanye might say. @geeums 4w
