ninabagley from what I can tell, this is the chrysalis of a pipevine swallowtail butterfly, which is now incubating next to a knobby stick in an old mason jar on the back porch... #chrysalis #pipevineswallowtail - spotted by my son Roy as we stacked firewood for the coming autumn and winter 1d
  •   coffeeordessert Wow-looks like light coming from within! 1d
  •   luv2grdn I have seen the butterflies and caterpillars in my yard, but never saw a chrysalis! I have tons of pipeline. Once you have it, you have tons! 1d

ninabagley view from the front door. what is it that is so pleasing about a sturdy little wagon? this one carts my groceries up the hill from the car, moves firewood from front to back and then to front again, carries heavy rocks, flats of flowers and herbs.... a good cabin companion.

ninabagley I've spent most of this afternoon right here on my back porch #treehouse, stretched out on a bamboo sofa watching the leaves dance in pre-rain breeze

  •   andecook @ninabagley sorry to discuss it on your page! Whether or not to paint my heart of pine. I get tired of it. Floors ceiling and walls all the same! 7d
  •   auntybellecracker @ninabagley @andecook Hi Nina-- so happy Ande had me peek at your gallery. This charming room is the essence of cottage hospitality-- who wouldn't want to nestle down in it?? Ande has a similar esthetic, though with heart pine as she mentioned. My comment is about the content of her rooms, they look natural with heart pine, not sure how those same contents would fare against a lighter palate. Sorry to jabber in your feed. But so happy to "meet" you. 7d
  •   andrahepler Cozy 6d
  •   ninabagley @auntybellecracker oh jabber away! feels like we are all sitting around visiting.... to answer @andecook, yes - whitewashed walls but they are log, cut flush. the rooms are dark enough because of covered front and back porches, so we white washed them when the cabin was built, 16 years ago... xx 6d
  •   ninabagley @andecook don't apologize! I just didn't know what yall meant with chicory... ande, I would paint those walls, or at least the ceilings. you will be amazed at how much bigger the rooms will feel!!! xo 6d
  •   ninabagley @andecook and my floors are old wide heart pine, from houses daddy tore down (he owned a demolition business in Alabama, and when interstate 85 came through, he won the bids on all of those old houses. this place is full of antique trim work, around doors and windows, the stair banisters, etc. lots of brown! but beautiful. you really will like the feel of it.... 6d

  •   vintagesparrowstudio How inspiring 2w
  •   ninabagley @andecook oh, it has only just begun... they needed to re-build a logging road that runs directly along the back of my property, so that the logging trucks can get up into that area to collect the trees they cut down. from what he told me on Friday, they will do "selective" logging, leaving many trees. the bigger trees - and there are some massive, regal ones - will surely go, unless they are what he called "bushy", with many branches. others with crooked trunks will be left; but the huge ones that fit their criteria will be taken down, which - he says - will allow younger trees to grow with the added open light. who knows? he seemed to appreciate my respect for their hard work, and for the fact that my property and cabin are RIGHT next to the land owner's wooded mountain behind (and partly below) me. he said that he will leave trees that provide some beauty and canopy for my western-facing side; he pointed to a couple of beautiful huge white oaks that he said they would leave- and they are still there. he also said that their acorns would provide food for the deer and bear who inhabit these woods. I walked up their "new" road above the back of my property yesterday early evening, high up through the heavy woods, and was stunned by the sheer beauty of those pristine forests pristine, not much longer. actual logging will take months, with trucks, chainsaws, and bulldozers making a lot of noise. it saddens me, while I also realize that there is nothing I can do, other than be a friendly and steady presence. I have offered cold water, use of my phone and a place on the porch for them to eat their lunch. I'll keep you posted x🌳x 2w

ninabagley sitting on the sofa for two hours, studying the wall before me and listening to an owl call into the night... rediscovering an old favorite song that had years ago been re-recorded to a different orchestral arrangement, so it took me back two times over, into two different layered sets of memories... both equally as bittersweet: "I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all....." - Joni Mitchell

ninabagley showing a part of the studio that I had not yet shared here, before now: the drop cloth canvas curtain hides an ugly wall of water filtration systems and the hot water tank, with a warren of hideous but necessary pipes; this is, after all, a basement, and was once a car garage. the rug is a "new" addition as well, inherited from my uncle and til now, rolled up below the windows. thanks to @scath.butler and @nbutler27, treasured friends from childhood and after whose mother I was named, for helping while they were here last week for a visit. I'm loving my "inspiration board", where I can pin photos and vintage textile pieces. the cloth was grommeted and hangs from a heavy rod with metal shower curtain rings.
