nicklauscombs the pain and the privilege: we are so fortunate to be able to take on these challenges when so many cannot (especially thinking of thomas green). months of preparation. encouragement from friends and family. sacrifices made. all leading up to that moment of achieving the goal. there's really no better way for me to close out my time in virginia than finishing this race again. sad to be leaving a state i've called home for over twenty years. looking forward to new adventures and exploration in colorado. a world of thanks to @themuddyapron and @alpineworks for all their encouragement and guidance in the months leading up. couldn't have done it without you all! #irunthisbeard 6d

nicklauscombs the best part about finishing a hundred miler isn't the buckle. it's the post-race nap. thanks to josh for snapping this one. #irunthisbeard #beardpillow 1w

nicklauscombs from start to finish one of my best executed races all thanks to my superhero crew / pacers. these two kept me moving while i battled through 90 degree heat and torrential downpours to finish strong at my second mmt 100. also big congrats to @fullerrunsfar @jaiya616 and @omgitsmittnacht for outstanding performances this weekend! i'm so proud of you all! #irunthisbeard 1w

nicklauscombs new adventures await. it's official! we're packing up and moving to boulder, co around the first week of june. we'd love to see as many people as possible before our departure including next weekend at mmt 100. i'm not sure there's even a way to describe how much we will miss all our friends and family in the area (including our vhtrc family) but we're only a plane ride away and can offer great beer and big mountains if you come visit us. #irunthisbeard 2w

  •   trailrunfinder Nice shot!! 3w
  •   itsjustyu @theironvegan I used tailwind for the first 33 miles or so. Then alternated between tailwind each hr and real food. Grilled cheese at 50k, ramen at mile 40, watermelon pretty often and then a pierogi at mile 46/47 which fueled me to the end. Then I ate a pancake. None of those foods I trained with, but they just felt right at the time! 3w
  •   i.am.sam.reed Cool pic! Hope you are enjoying CO, despite the less than ideal weather. 3w
  •   nicklauscombs @i.am.sam.reed actually loving this weather! back home it's mid 80s so this is perfect. 3w
  •   i.am.sam.reed Then fantastic, I guess. I just got into CO last night, and not digging the rainy gloom. But, it's a beautiful place none-the-less. Safe travels back to the East Coast! 3w
  •   theironvegan @itsjustyu haha it always ends up being some very strange combinations....thank you!! I'm so glad you were able to have a successful race without practicing with those foods! You're much braver than I am... I always try to practice with the exact same foods I'll race with.. 3w
  •   theironvegan @itsjustyu (accidentally sent that too early) but I suppose I might begin to have a pretty weird appetite after that long of a race so I guess it'll be a play it by ear kind of thing! Woohoo!! 3w
  •   funkyd79 wow 3w

nicklauscombs we take care of our own on and off the trails. local ultra running legend tom green was severely injured in a tree trimming accident and now needs our help. tom was the first person to complete the grand slam of ultra running (in 1986) which at the time meant finishing old dominion 100, western states 100, leadville trail 100 and wasatch front 100 in the same year. he has finished over 300 ultras in his lifetime but most importantly he has been a mentor/inspiration to so many people and always a friendly face on the trails. a gofund me page has been set up to help cover hospital and treatment costs with updates on his progress. any donations are truly appreciated. #slammertough 4w
