nickelcachers Longest print so far on the new 5th generation. Looks pretty good! #make #makerbot 4d
  •   judyk1 Gotta tell you - we've run a ship that took 25 hrs- went to 22 and had a filament jam/extruder error just as it hit the top of the print - AAAAAAGH!!!!!!!! Our larger pieces, like the worm, run anywhere from 3-7 hrs. It's really nice to have two! 😎 4d
  •   nickelcachers @judyk1 I hear ya. Our Rep 2 nozzle clogged BAD so having the 2X and 5th gen is nice in the meantime. 4d

nickelcachers Our next design project: How might we design things to help students with special needs in school? This is the fidget ring. It's designed to give sensory feedback for students who need texture and motion to help them concentrate in class. I love this design. It's going to be used an an example of what my students could design. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:571741 #make #thingiverse 1w

nickelcachers Jamy's first attempt at 3D printing her pendant design. From sketches to modelling to printing. Some changes to make but it looks great so far! #buildtothink #make #makerbot 1w
  •   judyk1 We've tried to do something similar on 123D Design and can't get certain sections to merge - which app/software produced this please? 1w
  •   nickelcachers @judyk1 student sketched design then took photo of it and placed it in background in Sketchup. She traced lines with arc and line tools. Push/pull to make it 3D. Exported as STL. used online model repair service to fix any holes in model. 1w
  •   judyk1 Thank you soooo much, Jared! My freshmen are just connecting with the idea that they can import their design photos - one step at a time and this example should give them a lovely push - Thanks again! @nickelcachers 1w
  •   judyk1 Also #Autodesk 123D Make / MeshMixer has an autorepair function - those downloads are free - have you tried them? 1w

nickelcachers 3R printer showdown! On the left wingnut, nut and bolt printed with Replicator 2, took 21 min. On right same model, printed with 5th generation @makerbot took 37 min. #makerbot #make 2w
  •   natetailor Should have used the same filament to test them equally. 2w
  •   thinkwerx ^^ yeah... What he said! 2w
  •   nickelcachers @natetailor @thinkwerx clarification, it was a time shootout. 2w
  •   judyk1 We have races between our Lucy and Linus, Makerbot Rep Fifth Gens - always an adventure! 😎 2w
  •   nickelcachers @judyk1 it seems like the 5th gen is so slow extra movements, extruder moving up and down. Not happy with it yet. 2w
