nbcnews From binders to USB drives, ballooning back-to-school supply lists are pinching poor families’ budgets and creating what some see as a have and have-not public education system. School districts are now forced to rely more on parents for items such as markers and construction paper, cleaning supplies, tissues, copy paper and printer ink. While this is a hassle for middle-class parents, it’s a much bigger burden for poor families, who already struggle just to outfit their own kids for school. Search “back to school” on NBCNews.com for the complete story. (Image: John @Brecher) #NBCNewsPics #portrait #backtoschool 3w
  •   gigi1119 As long as the government keep cutting back it's only going to get worse. These children are our future, and its a shame the way the education system is treated in this country. 3w

  •   jennynesbitt2233 Teachers also are forced to supply more things for their classrooms too! They supply most of their classroom libraries and everything for classroom set up. It's gets incredibly expensive. The gap in supplies between the rich students and the poor ones is huge. Education is not equal for all. The achievement gap is increasing. 3w
  •   shellie.71 Every year I buy more and more supplies and other materials for my students and my classroom. I give my students a bare bones list of supplies then I make sure they have the rest (or if they cannot get what I ask, I give it to them), and if the school doesn't supply it, I buy it. I go out if my way for my students, because each and every one if them deserve it. This is my job and I love it. 3w
  •   heidinichole1 It's because the teachers unions have raped the teachers salaries and budgets for school supplies 3w

nbcnews Aya, a 14-year-old Syrian refugee, was seriously injured when a bomb fell on her family’s home in mid-March. Her skull was broken and she lost her memory. But she survived, and each week her condition improves. “[She] can remember me and her father, and her brother,” Aya’s mother, Ibtesam, said. But she doesn’t recall anything about the bombing. “I told her what happened to our home, about the helicopter, the barrel bomb.” Aya still does not know that her little sister Iman was killed in the same bombing that injured her.
