  •   janeaustinpowers Black on black crime is not the issue here for those bringing that up. Using a straw man fallacy doesn't help this situation. This Gray incident, once again, is about the barriers of security/safety that we put ourselves into as a society in which police SHOULD be protecting the citizens rather than abusing their authority. People, particularly black peoples, are tired of seeing racially profiled police crimes in their neighborhoods and on the news 8min
  •   thelauralove Well said @janeaustinpowers ! 7min
  •   queenreezon @thelauralove you are right sis. Just been reading ignorant insanity like that all week. People act like just because they watch TV they know all of us. Its so sickening and they're pathetic. 5min
  •   thelauralove @yee.yee23 who gives a damn about stereotypes anymore? You think people should just keep asking nicely for cops to stop killing us? White America already sees all black men as thugs and criminals anyways and uses bogus drug charges an an excuse to kill them. Two years ago there was a peaceful 300 hundred man march in Baltimore addressing police brutality and NO MEDIA station covered it not one. Yet due to less than 50 looters and less than 100 rioters this is national news. I thank God for those people because they made this a worldwide national issue that people can't brush off anymore. Let's not forget all our leaders of peaceful protest have been shot and killed throughout history. 3min
  •   thelauralove @queenreezon they are pathetic! You are right about that. But I try not to get sucked into it. I'm just glad this issues has been brought to light more than ever before and keep trying to link up with like minded people for change. 2min

  •   kathyd122 @imancipated...your short commentary nailed it! 27s
  •   brycearoth This isn't protesting, a protest is peaceful and has an obvious cause. What is the purpose of throwing bricks at fire trucks, and slashing tires of ambulance's? This is not a protest, but a bunch of kids that just want to act stupid, steal things, and break stuff without consequences. A protest is something that you do with respect, this is just disrespectful to all. You trash the streets of Baltimore for what?! So the people who live there have to clean it up after you, like little children. You call for equality, but immediately segregate yourselves. Its insulting to those who worked hard to bring peace and equality. When did MLK rob a store? When did he throw a 17s

natgeo Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz / @thephotosociety There’s only one historic block of Dutch buildings left along Riverside Drive in New York City. This street facing the Hudson River was opened for traffic around 1880, but it was more than a decade before real-estate developers began to take notice. This block is a time capsule from the turn of the century, with Flemish touches and light stone façades characteristic of the era. natgeo Photo by @GerdLudwig. The Salton Sea is in the news again. As farmers let their fields go fallow in order to sell water to nearby towns, there is now limited agricultural runoff feeding into the sea. This decrease in the water supply is exacerbated by the current extreme drought conditions in California, and the Salton Sea is shrinking, leading to more serious concerns about the increasing salinity.
Thousands of birds, including Canada geese, American avocets, black-necked stilts, pintails, green-winged teal, brown and white pelicans, and the snow geese shown here, use the Salton Sea for migration or as a wintering site, with tens of thousands of shorebirds visiting in April.
I was just back at the Salton Sea this week to scout locations for my upcoming workshop. For more info: http://www.gerdludwig.com/?p=4099

natgeo Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz / @thephotosociety It was a bit of a gamble as the weather on the coast was sketchy and I only had enough cash for one helicopter flight. But when we broke through the clouds we were right on top of Billy Mitchell Crater Lake, with Mount Bagana, at 1730M, spewing sulphurous gases into the sky. It was an epic moment in 1999, on a six-week trip by private sailboat through the seldom-visited islands north of New Guinea. We were the first private yacht to anchor in Bougainville after a decade of rebellion. To see more from this remote part of the South Pacific go to @geosteinmetz #RingofFire 2d

natgeo New dams and their reservoirs have transformed the Lancang River—the upper Mekong—flooding riverside towns, farms, and roads. Along a reservoir created by the Gongguoqiao dam, goats are herded to pasture on a new elevated highway.

National Geographic Magazine writer Michelle Nijhuis and photographer David Guttenfelder traveled the mighty Mekong to explore the ecological and cultural impact of dam construction on the river.

In September 2013, I had the privilege to meet and photograph Malala Yousafzai, she is such a brave inspiring individual.
"A Pakistani court on Thursday sentenced 10 men to life in prison for their role in the 2012 shooting of Malala Yousafzai, the teenage Nobel laureate who defied the Taliban with her calls for girls’ education and won worldwide acclaim for her courage.
Ms. Yousafzai, who is now 17, was shot in the head in October 2012 when she was returning home from school with her classmates on a bus. After a brief stay in a military hospital in Rawalpindi, she was airlifted for treatment to Britain, where she is now studying and living with her exiled family.
Ms. Yousafzai rose to prominence after her blog chronicled life in the valley under Taliban rule and the ambitions of a young girl yearning for an education. Guided by her father, Ziauddin, an advocate for education, she became a symbol against Taliban oppression. Her fame and relentless campaigning rankled the Taliban, who threatened to kill her.

Ms. Yousafzai has won several awards for her bravery and was the joint winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize along with Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian campaigner for the rights of children." #MalalaYousafzai, #Taliban, #Nobelpeaceprize, #Newyorktimes,#socialgoodsummit
