myvillalife Garden's loving the not forty degree weather. This is the Big Ears my mum recommended. It's a Lamb's Ear but doesn't shoot up flowers so ideal in amongst roses. #Stachys byzantina #garden #summer 1w

myvillalife Seeking garden tips from green thumbs - my white hydrangeas are fading on the stem to lovely greens and pinks. Is this the time to pick and dry? Earlier attempts failed! #helpwanted #hydrangeas 2w
  •   twolittlepirates Mine always turn pink as they age. My Mum, who is my gardening guru, believes that it is very difficult to keep them pure white on the plant. It is nothing to do with soil PH it is just how they age. New flowers will still bloom white and then age to pink/green. I have never tried to dry the blooms though so can't help with that! Apparently there are new varieties of white hydrangeas that promise not to change colour! 2w
  •   janeplanetjoy Ness @marleyandlockyer can you share your drying tips with Ann @myvillalife? 2w
  •   marleyandlockyer Sure @janeplanetjoy @myvillalife leave them as long as you can on the plant. If you must pick them, put them in about an inch or so of water with a capful of bleach. Then leave them. Don't be tempted to change the water. After some time they will suck what they need up and dry. The bleach also stops mold etc. I still have stems I've dried from over 5 years ago. Good luck xx 2w
  •   myvillalife Thanks so much @marleyandlockyer - great advice and the bleach sounds the mystery ingredient to stop mould. Thanks for the intro @janeplanetjoy - you are so well connected on the www! 2w
  •   myvillalife Interesting @twolittlepirates - I don't mind the greens - although sometimes I wish a crisp white hydrangea or rose could last 9 months in the garden! 2w
  •   myvillalife Ah Instagram you never fail me !! @janeplanetjoy @marleyandlockyer 2w
