mr_neeme This is 15500 Windmill Pointe Drive in Grosse Pointe Park Michigan; a house I grew up just down the street from. It also happens to be one of my favorite houses of all time. I have always been a fan of the architecture of the homes in the area in which I grew up in due to their rich history but this is one that is unique. It is not the largest home in the area but its features and history is what makes it beyond cool. The house was originally built in 1928 for Jesse Vincent who was a lead engineer for Packard Automobiles in Detroit. He was also an US Army Major who helped design the Liberty V-12 aircraft engine – the project was late in the spectrum of WW1 and the result was a surplus of these powerplants that ended up being sold at steep discounts. Turns out, Vincent was also a race boat enthusiast and implemented that powerplant into a “Packard-Criscraft” which led to his 1922 Detroit APBA Gold Cup boat race victory against his competition Gar Wood. The house is one of the only in the area to have a canal leading right into a garaged boat house directly under the living room. There are rumors that the house was used for rum-running across Lake St Clair during prohibition as well. To support that rumor, in the basement there is a tavern room complete with a bar located just steps away from the boathouse. Following Vincent, the Mistele family (Harold, his wife and son Charles) took ownership of this house who were also largely into boat racing. My uncle was friends with son Charles. Charles is the owner of a 1930 Gar Wood speedboat, Miss America IX which is a story in itself. The 3rd owner of the house unfortunately let the house deteriorate and did not have the funds to bring it back to its glory. However, just recently, the house has been purchased and is going through a full restoration including an overhaul of the canal and boathouse. #packard #chriscraft #grossepointe #detroit #garwood #15500windmillpointe #apba #goldcup #prohibition 2mon

mr_neeme "When I first started skating I liked to watch people do tricks, and I just thought to myself like man I really want to do that. Love Park. It’s perfect. It’s got everything. Big ledges, little ledges, long ledges, short ledges, big stairs, little stairs. Its got everything. Skate there every day. Unless the cops are there” –Josh Kalis via Transworld Sixth Sense 1998 @dgkalis 12mon

  •   mr_neeme @dgkalis I wish individuals like Mayor Nutter would embrace this place for skateboarding much like Chicago just recently did with their new skatepark in Grant Park (the heart of the city) 12mon
