mmeschnuerschuh Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan

Egyptian antiquities have formed part of the British Museum collection ever since its foundation in 1753. The seven permanent Egyptian galleries at the British Museum, which include its largest exhibition space, can display only 4% of its Egyptian holdings. The second-floor galleries have a selection of the museum's collection of 140 mummies and coffins, the largest outside Cairo.
The mummies were the reason I went there in the first place.

mmeschnuerschuh The great court of the British Museum

The court has a tessellated glass roof covering the entire court and surrounds the original circular British Museum Reading Room in the centre, now a museum. It is the largest covered square in Europe.

I love the mix of old and new.

mmeschnuerschuh Millennium Bridge

Londoners nicknamed the bridge the "Wobbly Bridge" after participants in a charity walk felt an unexpected swaying motion on the first two days after the bridge opened. The bridge was closed later that day, and after two days of limited access, the bridge was closed for almost two years while modifications were made to eliminate the wobble entirely.

mmeschnuerschuh The Shard

Standing 309.6 metres high, The Shard is currently the tallest building in the European Union.
Renzo Piano, the project's architect, designed The Shard as a spire-like sculpture emerging from the River Thames. He proposed a sophisticated use of glazing, with expressive façades of angled glass panes intended to reflect sunlight and the sky above, so that the appearance of the building will change according to the weather and seasons.

Piano's design met criticism from English Heritage, who claimed the building would be "a shard of glass through the heart of historic London", giving the building its name.
