misstamchiak I am never stingy with compliments when I have great meal or service. Likewise, I won't be stingy with my feedback when there are less ideal ones. Yesterday, I went Hup Hup @ Blk 724 Ang Mo Kio for my bak chor mee fix. I have been their regular customer since my primary school days, when the father (original boss) was still doing the cooking. As the years go by, the father passed away and now, the elder brother does the cooking while the sister takes care of the ordering. Honestly, she is one of the worst hawker I have ever met. She literally gives you a black face. No matter where you stand or how you order, she doesn't smile, doesn't look up and gives an attitude.

For example, I went to the stall yesterday and there was no queue. I was standing more to the right, intending to take spoon and chopsticks. Without looking up and in a GL tone, she said,"Can you move to the left?" Throughout the whole ordering, she never say thank you and gave me a black face as though I owe her money. I didn't have an enjoyable meal of course. Who would enjoy the bowl of BCM if you are served by a "bin cao cao" server? I am not asking for restaurant service, I am just asking for basic manners?

But as I was having my noodles and typing an angry post halfway, what I saw changed my perspective. A old aunty was pushing a cleaning trolley near me. Her trolley was stuck to a drain slit and one of the trolley wheels came out. She went to Hup Hup and asked for help. The "bin cao cao" sister came, pulled up the trolley while the old aunty fixed the wheel. At that instance, her face wasn't GL and she kept asking in a concerned tone,"可以吗?" I offered to help and she said,"it's okay, not very heavy. I can manage." Within minutes, the trolley was working fine and the "bin cao cao" sister went back to her shop.

This would have been a far more negative and angry post if I had not witnessed the cleaning trolley incident. She is probably not apt for service line but she is certainly a lady with a good heart.

  •   healthydoodle Nice story... Moral of story is: don't judge a book by its cover. Or rather don't judge a person at all 'cos we really don't know their life story :) she may have a bcc face cos she has to be there everyday (a reminder of her late father)... Or whatever else going on in her life :) just enjoy the bcm cheers 20h
  •   ewenbell Lovely to read your story today. It's so hard to remember that behind a black face van be any number of untold stories. I'm glad you had time to appreciate her other side, and took time to share the whole story. Thankyou! 20h

misstamchiak Today, we say our last goodbye to Singapore's founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. For the past week, there were tears and a deep sense of loss for the leader who had spent his lifetime building a successful nation. And the heavens, too, wept tears of grief.

From education, transport, housing to even the trees, Mr Lee has touched our lives in so many ways. His impressive global network also helps our little red dot earned the respect of many foreign leaders who are in Singapore today to attend the state funeral.

On TV & newspapers, there are so many stories of people from all walks of life that showed a side of him we seldom see. And his devotion to his wife whom he took great care of her till her dying day touched many hearts.

Today, we gather as a whole nation to bid farewell to the giant of history despite the heavy rain. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow, but our memories are full of the love and kindness you gave over the years. Thank you Sir, for dedicating your life for the survival and development of Singapore. I have never been prouder to be a Singaporean. 谢谢你,将一生奉献给新加坡,给了我们一个属于自己的家。#LeeKuanYew #thankyouLKY #rememberingLKY

misstamchiak Wanted to join the queue at Parliament House today but I reckon I will be late for my night class if I do so. So we went to Istana to pay our respect instead. It has been an emotional week for many of us thus far. Whenever I watch the TV, listen to the radio or read the newspaper, there will be moving stories about Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the contributions he made to our little island. It's really touching to see many communities coming together to pay their last respect and restaurants giving out free drinks for those who are still queuing outside the Parliament House. And to all the journalists & guards who have been working very hard these few days, thank you. Please drink more water everyone. #RememberingLKY #ThankYouLKY 6d
  •   cherryblossomdiary MRT also 24 hours today 6d
  •   ade23t I was just there. And i took this same pic. 6d
  •   joeyhoo0o Heartfelt gratitude to all parties that made it possible to allow more to make it in person to pay our final respect. 6d
  •   ssqueakingg @misstamchiak hi,can i ask if theres any long q at istana? Is it one of the tribute site? Thanks 6d
  •   misstamchiak @ssqueakingg it is tribute site, no queue :) 6d
  •   yamagara I went to the tribute centre at the Botany Centre instead. The queue was rather short and the orchid named after him is placed next to his portrait, making this a very special location as well. So it's a good idea to visit other tribute sites if anyone can't make it to the Parliament House. 6d
  •   misstamchiak Thanks @yamagara ! 6d

misstamchiak This Saturday, @xmsbakeryx will be having a fundraising event to raise funds for elderly citizens from "For A Golden Home". They have specially created a NEW item available for taste-testing and purchase ― Kaya Croissant Sticks dipped in chocolate or coconut Beenut Butters.

Together with other pledgers, the campaign aims to raise at least S$25,000, which will fund the helping of approximately 30 one-room flat units through Project HomeWorks.

Mobile coffee Kiosk @KafveCoffee will also be there with their Specialty Coffee Espresso Bar with Cappuccino, Latte, Flat White, Long Black and Hand-brewed coffee available for the perfect Sunday accompaniment!

I will be there from 3 to 6pm to help out in this meaningful project. You will either see me packing the croissant balls or perhaps preparing coffee for you. So if you are free, drop by Moonstone Bakery (Blk 443 Clementi Ave 3 #01-71) this Saturday from 12.30pm to 6pm to do your part for charity. Note: no seating area, only for takeaway #foragoldenhome

misstamchiak "I have no regrets. I have spent my life, so much of it, building up this country. There's nothing more that I need to do. At the end of the day, what have I got? A successful Singapore. What have I given up? My life." - Mr #LeeKuanYew

Nation building is never an easy task. As what Bertha Henson mentioned in her article, "There will never be a perfect politician. Even a “popular’’ politician will be unpopular with those do not like their populist policies." Indeed, there is no one size fits all. But what you did what was right given the circumstances at the time. For now, I can see for myself how Singapore has become first world from third.

Thank you for transforming Singapore from a poor colony to a rich metropolis, from land of slums to a vibrant eco-city, from a country with no natural resources to one of the busiest ports in the world. Your intellect and vision mould Singapore into what it is today. I can say I am a proud Singaporean.

Farewell Mr Lee, thank you for putting Singapore and the people before yourself. We will build on your foundation and keep Singapore successful. My condolences to PM @LeeHsienLoong and his family. 谢谢你,我们的国父! #ThankYouLKY #RememberingLKY #TributetoLKY #LKY

misstamchiak Dinner at Lao Ban Niang zichar (Blk 214 Serangoon Ave 4). Lao Ban Niang (lady boss) Jeanette is very passionate about food. She goes to fishery port at 1am to buy fresh fishes and is very strict about food quality. We love the assam fish head. They also make their own yam rings and deep fried to a crispy basket. Burps! 1w
