misstamchiak Chef Daniel Sia opens the second outlet of The Disgruntled Chef at Ann Siang Road following the success of its first outlet in Dempsey. I went to lunch today and I absolutely love the Crispy Beef Short Ribs. Inspired by his travel in Korea, the beef ribs is first sous vide for 36 hours, then coated with light cornflour before deep frying till golden brown. It's crispy on the outside, pink and juicy on the inside. Served with white kimchi, honey soy glazed potatoes, spicy mayo, this dish makes me miss Korea! 1h

misstamchiak I spent a lot of time in Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 in the past because I used to work in a tuition centre here. My friend has been telling me about Chia Keng Kway Teow Mee for the longest time but my eyes are always glued to my favourite lor mee. These two week, I had wanted to try the stall but I am always there when the shop is closed (they are closed on Mondays & Fridays). Today, I FINALLY tried it! Unfortunately, the teochew old uncle who has been cooking at the stall for the past 50 years just finished a major artery operation and is resting at home. Now, the stall is managed by his wife with the help of their son. She continues to come to the stall at 2am everyday to prepare the ingredients - frying pork lard and shallots, hand slicing the pork meat, cooking the mushrooms and making the fish cakes. She was telling me, this stall started in Chia Keng (a village along Yio Chu Kang Rd) by her mother-in-law and they started selling noodles from 20 cents till now ($3.50 for the smallest bowl). Since I missed them so many times, I went ahead and ordered the $10 ultimate bowl - with fresh ingredients like big prawn, abalone, fishcake etc.
Whether you are going for the cheap one or the atas one, the star is definitely the mee pok. Unfortunately, I didnt have the chance to try the uncle's original version of mee pok, but aunty's mee pok is not too bad as well. Cooked till al dente, the noodles are well coated with their homemade chilli and tomato sauce, topped with generous amount of fried shallots and crispy pork lard. During our lunch, we even met a knowledgable old man who shared with us so many memories of his favourite hawkers from different kampong. It was a great lunch and of course, stories from the old man lead me to explore more hawker stalls before they are gone. :)

misstamchiak I usually try to control my diet, but when my friends from overseas visit Singapore, it will be a cheat day for me. A murtabak at 108-year-old Zam Zam needs to be shared, together with a cup of Teh Halia Terik. If you catch them at the right time, you will get a glimpse of them making prata. Have a great week everyone! 2d

misstamchiak It's a deal! We have just confirmed our banquet location for our family, relatives and some close friends. It's gonna be at Royal Pavilion at Park Regis Hotel!!! This new modern Cantonese restaurant located on the ground floor of Park Regis Singapore is a contemporary and luxurious dining venue. I am so in love with their intricate chandelier statement pieces and bespoke cloud-motif wall panels. Of course I have tried the food a few times and I love their Royal Smoked Duck with crispy skin and aroma of rich lychee wood. Chef and the team never stops seeking exciting ingredients to enhance his interpretation of modern Cantonese creations whilst honouring the traditional style of Cantonese cooking. We just had our lunch there this afternoon to confirm our banquet menu. And of course, we also had a taste of some of the banquet dishes as well as some of their signature dim sum. Trust me, the menu is impressive at a super pocket friendly price. I stared at the price and asked if they were serious about it. Because the price for their wedding menu is very very affordable. I am super excited that my wedding is going to be Royal Pavilion's very first wedding! #notpaidtowritethis #butveryimpressed #royalpavilion 3d

misstamchiak A little overworked last week, I woke up feeling lazy and decided to skip gym (again). This morning, I am craving for a good plate of wanton mee from Foong Kee. Tossed in a special savoury sauce blend of oyster sauce, soy sauce, lard oil and chili, the noodles are springy with a firm bite. How can I say no to self roasted char siew? It's fatty with a hint of sweetness. Hello Monday, why do you come so quickly? 3d

misstamchiak Eating claypot rice needs a lot of patience because we have to wait for the raw rice grains to cook and absorb the flavours of the ingredients. So if you want to visit Lian He Ben Ji to have claypot rice, go earlier, have some drinks, talk to friends and slowly wait for your 生米煮成熟饭. They are generous with their salted fish, very satisfying! 4d

misstamchiak Trying the "hottest" dessert in town - cakeshake! Cake Spade's Mudslide starts with a dark chocolate ice cream shake and a slice of chocolate blackout cake, topped with nutella and crushed oreo cookies, toasted mashmallow, popcorn and drizzles of caramel sauce. Oh mudslide, you are so so sweet! (On a side note, happy to meet @zippyzipeng here, he is so funny!) 5d

misstamchiak OMG! Mei-Xin mooncakes, #youwin. Look at the new LAVA Custard Mooncake, I wasn't expecting it to be really flowing, but once I cut it open, the golden creamy custard flows out (I quickly grab my camera to take a few shots before putting it in my mouth). This is the first time they launch it in Singapore, I got it from Takashimaya B2 booth last night and we are already having this for breakfast this morning. LAVA Custard Mooncake is the creation of lava- custard filling and crushed golden salted egg yolk. It's so so pretty and I have already popped three into my mouth. Can heat in microwave for 3-5 seconds or you can choose to eat it without re-heating. I love it more when I re-heat, it's finger licking good! Heard they only have limited quantity, better grab it fast before they sold out. I am going to buy more to gift to my relatives! 5d

misstamchiak The joy of sharing mooncakes and the serene moonlight during Mid-Autumn Festival is irreplaceable. For years, Mei-Xin has been cultivating such joyous moments with mooncakes made in Hong Kong, and baked with top quality ingredients.
This year, I share a Premium Assorted Mooncakes Gift Pack (picture above) with my family. The White lotus seed paste mooncake with 3 egg yolks is the bomb as it is made from the best selected lotus seeds and quality salted egg yolks for a silky and aromatic enjoyment to the taste buds. Being the health conscious kind, the low (reduced) sugar white lotus seed paste mooncake with salted egg yolk is our favourite too. For other flavours, visit Mei-Xin's retail booth at B2 Takashimaya square from 27th August - 27th September to get your mooncakes before they sell out! --------------------------------------------------------------- Don't say I never share, I am giving away 20 sets of Golden Assorted Mooncakes (not the above pic) to 20 lucky fans! It comes in a glamorous golden purple packaging filled with 6 famous flavours. This collection is specially for Miss Tam Chiak readers only and not available in any retail booths. misstamchiak From Orchard Road carpark to Toa Payoh Lorong 8, and now at Blk 574 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, Khin Kee Fish Ball Kway Teow (now called Fishball Khin) has been selling fishball noodles since 1965. Now, the eatery is managed by the 36-year-old son who is passionate about food and continues to use yellow-tail fish to make their own fishballs. They also have sheng mian and mini fish head hotpot. Yay, I found another great supper place because they are open from 11am to 2am (closed on Tuesdays). 6d

misstamchiak Sin Kee is a well-known name among chicken rice stalls. The business started in 1971 by Mr. Leong. Now, second generation siblings continue the Sin Kee Chicken Rice heritage at The Bedok Marketplace and called themselves "Uncle Chicken Rice". One thing never changes is their persistence of using good quality ingredients. Their fresh chicken is simply poached, sits in cold water, chopped and served with the flavourful rice. The chicken is cut chunky with an ultra smooth skin. The ginger and scallion dip was heavenly! I don’t recall tasting such good ginger dip before.
