missklaas I found an arrowhead today at my creek swimming spot! Or it's at least a practice arrowhead. 34 years of staring at the ground finally paid off 6d

missklaas If you are going to spend three hours picking gooseberries- there could be worse places to do it. This is one of my favorite spots near rolla, a large spring spills out to create this pond, which spills out to become the headwaters of a stream. 2w

missklaas Determined to make a gooseberry pie! Spent about 3 hours picking these things- it better be good 2w
  •   jesskleed Can't wait to hear how it is! I've never had a gooseberry. I'm guessing they are fairly tart? 2w
  •   missklaas @jesskleed yea they are like sour candy when they're green! I need to see you and your belly! 2w
  •   evad Nice! I can never tell when they're totally ripe, the longer I wait-they inevitably become bird food. 2w
  •   missklaas @evad I've been snatching them off bushes for nibbles for about 3 weeks now- and I couldn't tell a difference in their taste. Some of them are just now starting to turn purple- which I think they lose all of their flavor once they turn. 2w
  •   evad Damn. I could have been eating them all along. 2w

missklaas Found a cool rock and sliced it open in the rock lab at school- not sure exactly what's going on, looks like a bunch of chert. Any ideas @_geologyenthusiast_ @a_geologist 2w
  •   tittyfight314 That's what happens when chocolate is compressed over millions of years to create a Heath Bar. 2w
  •   mattfuelling It's just a cross section of a bale from work... 2w
  •   a_geologist Where did you find it? It looks like a conglomerate. 2w
  •   missklaas @a_geologist def a conglomerate- found on a gravel bar of a creek in the Ozarks region of Missouri - i haven't seen a conglomerate where everything in lineated in the same plane like that. Just wondering if anyone has seen a rock similar 2w
  •   onlyphysics @a_geologist @missklaas hope you guys can figure out more about this rock, I want to know about it as well! 2w
  •   amanda_benbow I don't think it's a conglomerate...Everything is lineated along the same plane. It looks like one specific mineral in a darker matrix. Possibly metamorphic? I'm very interested in what it is! 2w
  •   amanda_benbow I think it could be porphyroblastic feldspar in some matrix that was then lineated. It could very well be something else besides feldspar, but my gut is screaming feldspar... Haha 2w
  •   a_geologist @missklaas @onlyphysics @amanda_benbow If it is from the Ozarks, it is probably sedimentary. It does look unusual. My best guess is that it is an intraformational conglomerate/tempestite . Are the light-colored clasts limestone? Can you easily scratch them with a knife? 2w

missklaas This lettuce pallet thing worked out pretty well 1mon
  •   napalmbeth but the ground is right there 1mon
  •   missklaas @napalmbeth no time+small yard = vertical pallet lettuce... Plus bonus, no slugs on it 1mon
  •   jderoach Tell me how 2w
  •   missklaas @jderoach 1. Find a pallet made of untreated lumber 2. Put backer board on back and sides of pallet 3. Fill w potting soil 4. Plant seeds in between slats - can be put on the ground or propped up like this 2w
