misskarenelson When an image leaves you speechless. The human tragedy that's happening right now on European shores, near Bodrum Turkey, this toddler and 12 others were found drowned while trying to flee Syria to reach the Greek Island of Kos. They didn't make it and the bodies washed up in Turkey. While there is no easy solution to this problem their can be a humane and decent one that gives hope and help to protect these tragic losses of lives.

misskarenelson This is a tragedy on our door step. The amount of children fleeing war torn countries to Europe is staggering. Over the weekend I read horror stories about children dying from being trapped in shipping containers, drowning, over heated and die in trucks as they try to flee and it seems the response in Europe is dismal. When I was in Jordan I met Syrian refugees at Zaateri refugee camp and their stories were chilling and brutal. They wanted to go home yet had no home to go to, or would be killed if they dared return. No child deserves to be in this situation, nor mother or father. Majority of people fleeing are good people in awful situations and are desperate. No home, no safety, no hope and no country. Europe needs to band together and find realistic and humane solutions to a problem that is only getting worse and will continue to get worse as the instability continues. @savechildrenuk #EveryChildMatters 3d
  •   amennyc In my commwnts I note that I agree with you. I'm on your side with this. Simply poiinting out that the USA needs to take a bigger role wiith this "international humanitarian" issue. They are greatly responsible for the cause and can easily absorb refugees. Its not just a European problem. I've been to Syria. The kindest people I've come across. Its horrific what's going on. Palmyra was stunning. So beautiful. Its barely a news story on US media. @jesshallettcast is correct. Both of you are. But its time the USA steps up as well and does more than supply weapons. 2d
  •   bonneyboys oh my goodness, i am so sorry if my comment came off negatively, that was the last thing I intended @jesshallettcast @amennyc @misskarenelson I was trying to list everyone in the thread bc my question, as someone who is just a normal every day citizen who often feels despair every time I hear the news is -how do we help? My thought is that politicians and government leaders spend an awful lot of time arguing over who is to blame rather than expending that energy into rolling up their sleeves & figuring out how to help. I know it is important to figure out the root of the problem but as an individual, I wish I knew of practical ways I (and apparently everyone on this thread who also cares about what's going on) can help. I would love to do something, ANYthing rather than read about some mother who had to leave her 13-year-old son behind if she was going to get her younger kids safely to the refugee camp, meanwhile, I'm struggling over which of the 17 toothpastes do I buy. There is such a grave amount of injustice and inequality in the world and it's hard not to feel hopeless/helpless. I look at you @misskarenelson as someone who has influence and who is using her influence for good and I very much appreciate the spotlight you put on these issues. 2d
  •   jam_s_gram Do more developed countries have the responsibility of mending war torn countries? Would we in turn be helping the people of those countries our making it worse? Are we obligated to house refugees and immigrants from those countries? Every action has a reaction and I personally feel we should help others but there we should also avoid conflict with other nations. 2d
  •   dzhandaroff It's truth ( 2d
  •   misskarenelson @mama_m_fox of course it is a worldwide problem, but currently in Europe a large scale humanitarian crisis is unfolding the most effected are the children refugees, who have fled horrific conditions. I've met mothers who've lost children, husbands, brothers in the Syrian conflict in horrific ways, they're fleeing for their lives, not because they want to steal jobs and take counties benefits. They embark on a journey so perilous and unknown and life threatening because it's the only chance of a future. Poverty and inequality are everywhere, this I know, but my post wasn't to slight America problems or not discuss them but highlight a problem close to my heart currently as I'm born in Europe and there often. I wasn't comparing one problem to another 2d
  •   misskarenelson @jam_s_gram Certainly don't think more conflict is the answer but helping those who have fled horrific life threatening conditions get back on there feet isn't rocket science to me it's called humanity 2d
  •   mncmm @misskarenelson It is necessary for these countries to STOP THEIR WARS... 2d

misskarenelson I wish I could play all this clip...the wonderful and talented @brendanjbenson came up and sang the Cat Stevens classic Wild World last night. Yesterday I was at lunch with him and his wife and Wild World came on the radio and we started singing and decided that we should sing it together at the show.
Thank you Florence for the good times

misskarenelson Florence AL keeping it legit and awesome but I would be remiss if I didn't say a lot of the models I know are the most empowered women I know but I understand the point which is women of all sizes, shapes, colors, backgrounds should be respected at all times! 5d
  •   sarakatehart Shout out to Florence Al!! You must be at Billy Reid's place. 5d
  •   foxcultvintage I think this is more about empowering women so that they don't feel they have to aspire to be pretty, because women are more than just that. 5d
  •   sttray This is certainly what male chauvinism is all about. We don't need to get rid of models or deny the possibility to other women to become models. It's about understanding that all women should be respected and dignified just because they deserve by right - as all living beings. I hope someday this society gets it 5d
