milli_art Another person gunned down only steps from where I paint daily. The woman who was killed in the police shooting on Thursday after being pursued in a stolen car was shot just a few yards from my studio door. I should have been there painting on my studio rooftop and witness to the whole crime. Ironically, I luckily was across town in Oakland signing a contract with AHC to continue in the mission of empowering youth to use art/music/education to overcome the poverty and violence in our communities. The very same project where my friend and comrade Antonio Ramos was killed while painting alongside me this past fall. The person responsible for his killing is now on trial, and he used a Immigration Enforcement Agent's gun that someone stole from that agent's unlocked car in SF a month before it was used to execute my friend. What do we do as a society and as individuals to stop these needless deaths from occurring? How do we as a country plan to lead by example when we are clearly unable to police ourselves properly in our own backyards? What causes people to commit these crimes in the first place and what causes these officers to betray the public trust? What can we do so that the good police officers and people in power start to enact real change and fire/put on trial the police officers who commit these crimes, propagate fear, and further divide the community? I'm at a loss. I know the answer isn't to run away or turn a blind eye while POC continue to be executed in our streets and disenfranchised by our politicians. We all have a responsibility to our peers, our youth, our elders and ourselves to be on the front lines in the pursuit of opportunity and safety for everyone. But for today, I'm holing up in my studio. Overwhelmed and disillusioned. Painting. Reflecting. Searching. Looking for answers in the meditative sound of brush dragging across canvas. 7d

milli_art So, yesterday was my younger brother's 25th birthday. The Giving Tree has always been a favorite of his growing up. I read it to him as a kid and gave him a copy at his college graduation. So I painted this on the neighbor's back fence that is right next door to our place in San Francisco as a gift. We've been living here for several years. I approached the neighbors and gave them my card. They called the police and told them a gang was spray painting the entire side of their house. The police rolled up with sirens and then had to call off their backup once I told them I was the "gang" they were looking for. So my first "not very legal" wall went rather poorly with those two neighbor's declaring "walls should stay white." While the other surrounding neighbors offered me solidarity and offered their walls as a canvas once I'm legally obligated to paint over this one's "offensive" imagery. It's a strange world we live in...I'm not sure I want to stay in a city that wants plain walls instead of the clever ones. I didn't post sooner because the whole experience was rather bizarre, but now I'm deciding screw it. I'm probably be taken to small claims court for not asking permission for painting children's storybook on a tiny wall and I'm okay with that. I stand by what I did. More people should read that damn book. 3w

milli_art Forgot to post a finalized photo. Clients loved it. I'm relieved! Hand painting three lines and 157 small circles was really tedious work. But now I know I can do it! Mural concept design by @therealleighhill for the Kore office in San Francisco. 3mon
