meganmatters Humbug Wash

By the mid to late 1800s millions of gallons of water were being used to blast away the mountain sides of the San Juan Ridge line. Countless amounts of debris floated down Humbug Creek into the South Yuba River, providing many of the rocks we spend summers scouring through. Thousands of acres of fertile farmland in the valley below were repetitively covered in tailings, at one time up to 25 feet in Yuba City and Marysville. Thinking of these sisters today (and most everyday) who endured one of the most difficult and traumatic experiences our lives together one year ago. Although time has passed, there is rarely a day that goes by that I don't think of the earthquake or Nepal. A place that has forever changed me, both in lightness and in dark. I learned so much and am still uncovering and recovering from all that I experienced in Asia. I am so thankful for the friends I made on that trip and that we are still connected, however far away...
