mattmillsphoto Jesus unfortunately couldn't save the dissolved Mars Hill mega church network of #washington state. This relic still hangs on Leary Ave. #ballard #seattle #pacnw #signs 4d
  •   joephilipson If only people would wake up to the fact that there is no difference between the God of the universe, and regular everyday statistics. Churches fail, people get cancer and die, people lose their jobs. Studies have shown that people who pray and people who don't experience the same numbers.... 4d

mattmillsphoto A man fills his truck with petroleum for delivery to customers around Atkinson, Nebraska during a morning in July 2014. Oil and gas still remains an integral part of farming and ranching operations in the Sand Hills, used to operate farms trucks and heavy machinery.
A report by the Environmental Protection Agency states the Keystone XL pipeline would create greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to "5.7 million passenger vehicles or 7.8 coal fire power plants." Over the 50-year life of the pipeline, 1.37 billion more tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The @epagov also mentions in the report that if the pipeline is constructed that an alternative route must be developed around the Sand Hills, and the department will work with the state of Nebraska to ensure that happens.
With recent news about the Keystone XL pipeline, I'm sharing some photos on Instagram and Tumblr from a personal project that took me to Nebraska and South Dakota on a few occasions to explore the lands, and meet people in the fight against it. Thanks for looking.

mattmillsphoto Bruce Boetcher (L) visits Calvin Dobias (R) at his farm near Atkinson, Nebraska. Both are farmers, ranchers & pipeline fighters in the Sand Hills who fear the Keystone XL pipeline would pose unnecessary risks to their farms & ranches if constructed, warning that if oil or chemicals used to treat it ever leaked into the water it could have catastrophic effects on the environment & agriculture in the region. They started rallying against the pipeline in 2010 when Transcanada began to pursue their land to build for plans to build a pipeline.

The House of Representatives approved Keystone in January, Senate tweaked the bill by adding amendments, including an acknowledgement that climate change is real. The bill goes back to the House for approval, and Obama has pledged to veto.
