makingmagique Rough afternoon of emotional abuse at the French tax office. Will refrain from voicing my complaints and trying to look on the bright side of things in France. 7d
  •   lilmisstnt French bureaucracy is the worst! 😟 But hopefully nothing a macaron can't fix! 7d
  •   bumovna I find it wonderful that you still can look at the bright side of things. Good luck! 7d
  •   exploresmore Girl I feel, 8 months in and my health insurance still has not been cleared but hey, the views outside our windows make it all worth it 7d
  •   makingmagique @exploresmore oh darling, after four years I still did not have a carte vitale!!! 6d
  •   petite_irlandaise No carte vitale, no social security number, didn't realise I had to file for taxes... trying to look on the bright side of life but it's not always easy especially with all the paperwork and lovely visits to French fonctionnaires on the horizon! 6d

makingmagique Nature is so precious. I am so sad tonight thinking about yesterday's #SantaBarbaraOilSpill in my hometown. I've been crying watching videos of birds suffocating in the oil, and whales swimming right through it with their babies. Enraged that people's first reaction on the news is that they can't walk on the beach for a few weeks or their Memorial Day campout will be ruined. We humans are lucky we have other places to go but those precious animals and all the parts in their ecosystem cannot escape the consequences of the negligence of humans and our continuing dependence on black gold and greed for the money it brings to America's mega wealthy and our unsustainable growth obsessed economy. Today Santa Barbara, tomorrow the Arctic. What can we do? Really though? Voting is not enough. Feeling powerless as I see how beautiful the world is everyday and feel it slipping away from us. I'm sorry to write so much, I just feel so sad all the time when I think about our environmental impact spinning out of control to the point of no return before I have to distract myself in order to avoid complete panic attack. I think about it every single day, more and more all the time. I live a simple life in a small flat, I sold my car, work from home, walk everywhere, barely eat meat, I sign every petition, I donate to things whenever I can, I share knowledge, but I still feel useless. #sorryIsoundcrazyemotional but if you have thoughts or ideas about how everyday people can truly make more change short of quitting their job and dedicating their life to environmentalism I am all ears. 2w
  •   makingmagique @daisydarlingdobby86 yes it's so sad that we will always sacrifice what is best for the environment and the long term in favour of economic growth. Hopefully the UK is a small enough nation that they manage change for the common good, but sadly I believe a nation as large as the US it will just be too hard for 500 million people to come to consensus on how to save our future. We will be playing tug of war straight into our apocalypse. 2w
  •   sashafierce1223 @makingmagique we need a constitutional amendment to overturn citizens united in order to get the money out of the political election process. The only way we can accomplish this is by voting and making our voices heard. I agree that the 2 party system is flawed though. 2w
  •   sashafierce1223 @Makingmagique i understand what you mean though. I feel like there are so many problems with our system of governance and with America today in regards to the environment, student loans, the public education system, and the dwindling middle class. It's hard to know where to begin to tackle these systemic issues. 2w
  •   synnebollen These things are heartbreaking! I'm so sorry to hear that your hometown is affected! I know how you feel - I try to do everything I can in my daily life, and it is said that every little helps, but it feels hopeless at times. I think we just have to stay positive, keep going and try to create ripples - they can become waves and make a proper difference! By the way, do you know the book Green Chic? It's a guide to a greener life, with a humorous, ladylike approach! I think you would like it! 2w
  •   yl.k Truly respect those who dedicate their lives selflessly to a cause 2w
  •   parisbyfriday So well said Haleigh! It is incredibly frustrating to think that unless everyone else acts accordingly, your impact can only save so many creatures and preserve the environment. As much as I love the modern world there is no need for even more of it - we can keep building upon what we have already without destroying the natural beauty that's left. I also find it sad that people need to be prompted, whether by news or celebrities or trending hashtags. We are all responsible and we all need to help. 🌎 2w
  •   abigaillabranche @makingmagique I'll ask him what he thinks. Of course, there is so much politics involved with everything and so many established energy lobbies (including nuclear) that want renewables to fail... I'll admit, it gets so confusing sometimes I have to stop trying to figure it out and just manage to make dinner and get work done. But in terms of the book - it is about the human micro-biome which has been largely ignored/misunderstood but is so important! If you think you might be interested, check out Martin Blaser's interview on NPR's Fresh Air sometime. Hope the sun is lifting your spirits a bit this morning! 2w

makingmagique The first place I ever lived in #Paris, and the first place I ever lived on my own. So much love for this door every time I pass by. Do you remember the photos I used to take in its beautiful courtyard back in the early days of my blog? 2w
  •   santabarbarastyle lots of great memories behind those doors... 2w
  •   makingmagique @cc_sweetpea I'm not sure specifically but this building is from about 1600. The door has one of the old iron foot steps for men to stand on to mount their horse. There are only two remaining in Paris and one is here! All the rest have been removed. I assume it has something to do with that :) 2w
  •   marijevanwijngaarden @kimverkleij deze deur is echt perfect om een mooie foto bij te maken tijdens ons tripje! 2w
  •   howlkate Amazing look and you! 2w
  •   thesecolours You new style is so ace 2w
