larkinandlarkin throwback to my big baby 5 years ago & his glorious ears 🏽 among the many lessons this old soul has brought to light in our time together, is a reinforced awareness of just how much we humans rely on our visual cues for our information and processing -- & how the nature of relying so heavily on how things look seems to have us - the human family - stuck in a state of arrested development...more often than we like to admit we make our choices (for action & inaction) out of judgement (fear) based on surface appearances. nearly all of us live in this foggy pseudo-reality where rather than watch what's happening around us, we continuously search for evidence in our surroundings that we can match to something in our catalog of past experience -- and then we use the lens of that experience to color the present moment, our interactions with each other, encounters with animals, ideas about the future.. etc etc .. when Brutus had these big ass ears EVERYONE was afraid of him. not totally unfounded, as he has a big bark and as a youngin he was somewhat aggressive in his approach to protecting me (he is a chow chow / Akita mix descended from a long line of semi-wild Atlanta guard dogs, so this is a natural part of his personality not a defect) but as soon as one of his ears got hurt & bent over - and I mean, like the next day - people started treating him differently. they started approaching instead of avoiding him. nothing else had changed except one wrinkly ear. then 6 months later he whacked his other ear, giving him the little bear look he has today - and suddenly he was perceived as totally harmless. and his aggression changed right along with public opinion. as soon as he wasn't treated like a scary dog, he lost interest in BEING a scary dog. and btw I found him at 6 weeks old & he has NEVER been: abused, hungry, molested or dressed in clothes. his attitude was a direct reflection of public expectation & my trying to protect him from experiencing projected paranoia. it blows my mind to think that if he hadn't had this relatively slight tweak in his looks, I might have spent his whole life never getting to see him for who he really is -- a real chill dude 1d

larkinandlarkin as far as I can tell there are only three types of people in this world:
1. those who cried when they heard Prince died
2. those who cried when they found out Prince died and then fell into a depressive rage (because let's be real he was more like probably murdered, and if that sounds crazy you probably don't want to come over for tea at my house)
3. cyborg drone motherfuckers hiding inside rubber suits that resemble flesh but are actually impenetrable by anything holy

larkinandlarkin a meeting of the ginger appreciation society
this is the same thing I do when I cross paths with one of my tribe, but for some reason, over half the time the other ginger looks like they wish a black hole of invisibility would suck them up and rip my tongue out for pointing out our mutual ginger status. It's a real bummer, dudes! natural born gingers are only about 2% of the entire earth's human population, and being different is hard. Legitimately. And to shed some light on the kind of "difference" most redheads experience -- they are more often than not the only ginger in their family, neighborhood, class, job...etc. (personally I didn't know another redhead until 6th grade and then everyone thought we must be related even though she was a foot shorter than me, a different skin tone and a voice like a fog horn but nbd, right? #wedontalllookalike ) BUT here's the deal about embodiment (trigger warning time - you might not agree with this but idgaf) WE CHOOSE OUR VESSELS! So when these redheads are spending their energy carting around trauma based in their differentness (trust me - all redheads get fucked with for being different, but if you come from a tribe of ethnically mixed outsiders with slight superiority complexes like I do, it just serves as confirmation that you're a unique hot shit surrounded by a sea of cold homogenized diarrhea and it's not quite internalized the same way, but it still leaves it's mark..) I just want to shake the ginger piss out of them and hold up a mirror and remind them that being part of a 2% populace that has existed for hundreds of thousands of years on every continent and sometimes 10 feet tall is basically the best thing ever and they made a really strong choice when they picked their 3D form. 🏽

larkinandlarkin tfw there's lots you want to say on this day -- april 10 -- because it marks six years since you've had a regular job (and someday y'all, I do promise to give you some juicy *wtf* details about that job but for now let's just say it could accurately be described as "physically challenging and emotionally toxic" -- and it was serving damn food #pleasetipyourwaitress but on a real honesty tip -- the horrors of that job have had a lot to do with my "success" (a verrrrry loose term and on my own conditions only) as a creatively unemployed person #honoryourpersonalhorror #therealdeviliscomplacency) but srsly -- later I promise) and this is basically a national holiday in the sovereign country of your mind, but right now you have a toothache that feels like you're tongue kissing an extension cord in the rain and this picture of a sight you took in a few hours ago basically says more about all this life stuff than you could (under even the best conditions) anyway. 3w
